My idea: expensive crafting, one-shot-then-crafting-reload, hiss before shot, emough smoke to temp. blind shooter, light flash, inaccurate at long ranges and good at mid-shot range, but SHREDS armor and doesnt break. The damage of the "bullet" would stay the same, say, 3.5 hearts, but it would completely ignore armor, and guaranteed break a random piece. This could be devastating phsycologically and physically; it would reduce the morale of the attacker and lower his defence rating.

Ladies and gentlemen, Hell has frozen over, and Satan is putting on ice skating shows for charity.
I know I'm asking for a bit much here but it would seem a bit weird to just add guns and nothing else.

No, there has never, ever been a sandbox game with a story or ending... except Grand Theft Auto... and Saints Row... and Red Dead Redemption... and Crack Down... and Assassins Creed...
Everyone's favorite suggestion?
I think guns are a terrible, terrible idea for Minecraft.
A balanced gun is not a terrible suggestion. Only an unbalanced one. So, yes, people who think that Minecraft should have rapid-fire machine guns and halo-style rocket launchers are pretty -worthy, but those suggesting cumbersome and inefficient period weapons are not. Don't get me wrong, I play games like Halo, Blacklight, and Section 8...and in Terraria I loves me my clockwork assault rifle, but Minecraft would have to be a different kind of game for that sort of thing to be in it. Whether or not some kind of post-enderdragon difficulty jump (like Terraria's hardmode) ought to be included is the subject of a different suggestion, though.
One thought I've had, though. If different damage types, like in D&D (Piercing, Slashing, and Bludgeoning), were implemented in Minecraft, then enemies could be made that are resistant/weak to different types. More combat strategies would open the way for more weapons. At that point, guns need not even be better than a bow in any way, just to deal a different damage type!
I don't oppose guns because they don't fit with theme historically, or because they don't make sense with the current tech. They do on both accounts.
The fact is I just don't like the concept. I believe I don't stand alone when I say: Mine Craft is NOT an FPS. I'm not saying that guns or even one gun would make it that, but...
I don't like the idea that a person can aim, shoot, and their target will be hit. Arrows give time for a player to evade. Even crossbows won't be UN-dodge-able. Guns are too overpowered. Even if it takes a long time to reload, and they do a lot of damage, you can still aim, fire from a good distance away, reload and fire again before your enemy even knows where you are. They give the game-play a whole different feel.
To sum up my viewpoint:
It's not about theme here. It's about the game-play mechanic.
maybe the guns bullet could have a travel time? a short travel time, not allowing their target much time to get out of the way, but a bet a player could time it right and dodge a bullet.
not mention magic and more mobs to use these weapons.sort of like balkons weapon mod.
minecraft needs a blunderbuss!its a primitive shotgun that had a long reload, short range but if you were close enough was an almost definite kill or mortal wound. if it fired, since the gun had difficulties at times, maybe that could be an element to balance this gun, reliability, sometimes it wont fire and you have to reload. I'm just suggesting.
also we could have something like this, a shield, equipped in an inventory slot next to you armor slots, adds more protection from ranged weapons.
My concern with guns and crossbows is that they take away from the challenge of combat. The bow already seems slightly overpowered already, given you can kill mobs while out of their sight range.
I wish Jeb would hurry up with modding API so those who want guns could download weapon mods like balkons or SDKs with ease.
well, the shot from a gun would probably alert all the hostile mobs in an area around you to your position, so, kill a creeper, end up shooting franticly at the 10-15 running after you.
It doesn't fit the genre. Would you want Vulcan Mini guns in Legend of Zelda? no.
people like you don't understand that we don't want that stuff in minecraft, i don't want any rapid fire weapons, but a single shot then expensive reload is ok, look, if anyone doesn't like this gun idea please have a reason that makes sense, not just saying guns are going to ruin minecraft, i wonder if you people actually read the posts, and actually just go on and start saying its a bad idea, pay attention to what people are saying, i understand some reasons why people don't like the idea for guns but this thread isn't about AK 47's or Mini-guns, its about flintlock firearms and primitive guns like that, so to everyone who comes on and doesn't make a valid point about what they are saying, don't post. In all seriousness i would prefer constructive criticism, not just, Guns will ruin minecraft! and such.

This is starting to get severely, severely redundant.
Why would we need half a dozen melee and half a dozen ranged weapons that are all the same except for minor differences in attack speed, reach, and damage? It's pointless. Bows and swords are fine. Guns would just be bows, but different. Battleaxes and such would be swords that look different. If you must wield a mace, then make a texture pack.
That's why I don't want guns. That and I could not imagine having one of those useless, takes-a-half-hour-to-reload, worthless, if-you-hit-them-it-is-overpowered guns in Minecraft. Or a good gun in it.
now, i saw some people putting in many ideas for guns and even new melee ideas, but honestly i don't think we need more melee weapons, but for guns, there should be at last 2 or 3 of them, there has to be some variety for them, because if its all one gun, and people don't like that gun, there should be more to choose from, but not just stronger ones, that are better in every way, i saw a post about how they should be equal in total, just sacrificing some things for others, like giving up streghnth for range and vice versa, there are many options to choose from if you think about it,if you want to be able to kill from very far awayt i, then your bullets do less damadge, and the person has more time to find cover because the bullet didnt kill him instantly, it might sound useless to some, but think its a good idea
not blunderbusses, that would be too many. shield are a cool idea mind.
play an RPG. 99% of the time the swords, knifes, claws, spears, etc you equipt your characters with are exactly the same. does that mean there should only be one or 2 weapons?
not to mention it's 8 melee weapons and 4 ranged [more ammunition dosen't count].
thanks for the shield comment, i was thinking about it before i found this thread and decided to suggest it :smile.gif:

It's more for role playing than anything else, and because it would make guns less obvious and thus give them less hate.

Actually, with all the talk of more weapons I've made a topic about using a R-P-S dynamic to Minecraft combat, making a hammer or spear more than just an aesthetic choice.
maybe the guns bullet could have a travel time? a short travel time, not allowing their target much time to get out of the way, but a bet a player could time it right and dodge a bullet.
That's the idea. It would take about 2 seconds to reach its maximum range.

My solution to the blunderbuss without making too many guns is that you could load the gun with a gravel instead of iron to make an around 5-shot, low damage per projectile, low range shot.
And a shield would be good, but it wouldn't make much sense to lower projectile damage only.

You slaughter animals for their hides and flesh.
You destroy the landscape and gouge out the earth to build your monuments to vanity.
And yet you call me monster.
How about making the bullets like that, but replace the paper with gold nuggets? I am not sure about how many bullets you should get, but it should give a lot. The gun should be made like this: . You should make a gun charge like this (shapeless recipe): . It would give 4 gun charges and the flint and steel would be returned, but take 1 damage. You would combine the gun, a bullet, and a gun charge to get a loaded gun. You can shoot it.

Why does everyone think I don't have an avatar? Is there anyone who can see the one black pixel.
Please click the dragons, they need to grow. Also, my fully grown dragons can be found in my bio.
but thank you. You stated what I've said all along "if guns would exist, they should be models found in the early gun era."
no AK 47s or fast shooting anythings. Good ol' fashioned black powder.
The idea is solid, and partially balanced. Now the only issue is "having more then 1 gun loaded and ready"
Say you have your first 5 as guns. 5 shots.. 5 damage each, in rather fast pace (not much to aim, shoot, and use mouse wheel to change over) Too easy of killing, everything.
A Weapon Type/Armor Type/Defense would have to be implimented to help scale damage.
A bullet in a slime - should do nearly nothing. A bullet into a creeper could cause it to explode right off, etc.
Paper should be involved or string/wool for the 'wadding' as well. black powder + nugget + wadding (rammed down into the gun) + either fire or flint/steel (flint lock pistol style) to fire 1 shot.
The bullet should not fly very far either - they didn't in the past (sure a "long" way, but not crazy far) due to the weight of the Lead (common Nugget material in RL) and the lack of aerodynamic travel. Bullets back then flattened and caused major damage on impact, but most deaths were caused by infection later.
You know, I've heard people's worry on the whole "derringer meryl" setup before...
(Derringer Meryl)
Personally, I think there's an easy solution to this. There is no "loaded gun" variation. Loading is a Right-click action with a gun, like eating or pulling back a bowstring. It only lasts while the gun is active on your hotbar. In other words, switch to another weapon or tool, and you have to load it all over again. So, yes, you can prepare it in advance, but only for the first shot, and only so long as you don't have to switch to something else. That should keep things fair, and is not too far off from how early firearms worked.

The problem with that is this: What happens to the materials used if you switch? Do they just leave your inventory? I think that your idea, while good, would be too risky if you were to accidentally switch.
And most players in PvP have armor, don't they? So the 5-8 hearts (I'm not sure on the damage. I think 5 hearts is too little, but I don't want it to insta-kill) would be lessened most of the time.

The Arquebus is definitely worth adding to the game. I always saw MC more like Middle-age themed. I mean, we have gunpowder in the game but not guns.
