Your position is rather sensible, yea.
But the main thing why all newly suggested things are not supported is disbalance. Even if flintlock is made out of expensive materials, just imagine - go home to your table, take a saw, hammer and pincers, and try to make a firearm out of some planks and ingots!! /i was making firearms, so/ I will say - it's impossible.
Before making advanced stuff, like firearms, grand mechanisms, and other, we need to get manufacturing capabilities. As example, things we need to make an arquebus are -
1. joiner's shop - to make buttstock, and not out of planks! Minecraft planks are too short and thick for this.
2. forge - to hammer barrel into shape.
And only then, we can take parts of our gun, go to workbench and combine them in a whole.
And one more - using smouldering fuse/silk that will last for some time, while we are fighting an action, is more conformable in my opinion.
Btw, i'm starting 17-age mod... Do you guess what i mean? :cool.gif:

Tell that to diamond tools and armor.

Alright, take some rocks, and some sticks and make a decent sword.
Or some spider silk and sticks and make a bow.
TNT. 'nuff said.
~ I kind of like this idea in the way of a mod/gamemode that you should beable to pick at the single player world create menu. But for a implement into the game, this would probably ruin war as we know it in Minecraft\

No, a balanced firearm would not 'ruin war as we know it' in Minecraft. It would, in my thinking, add a new type of 'soldier', the musketeer. Or, even less different, the normal swordsmen/archers could have an arquebus or two as a backup weapon.

You invade this world claiming it as your own simply by your presence.
You slaughter animals for their hides and flesh.
You destroy the landscape and gouge out the earth to build your monuments to vanity.
And yet you call me monster.
Firstly, Christopher Columbus isn't a conquistador. He's British...
Secondly, the bullet in themselves weren't the main cause of people dieing in that age. The bullet only reached just under the skin. The main reason why people died when they were shot was due to infection, it also didn't help that bullets were made of lead. The guns are inaccurate, so you would have to run up to the people to hit them. As well I like the reloading system of Kydo more, however the gun has flint and steel in it, so all it would need is a bullet(automatically) and gunpowder(manually).
hate to break it to ya, but you're wrong too. he's italian.
I just thought of a way to do balanced, high damage guns with two ammo types in minecraft:
make an empty gun
-place it like you would the brewing stand,
-right click on it and you get a crafting window that holds the items you load into it, for instance: powder, primer(paper?), bullet, flint/torch(maybe)
-once all items are inserted the gun will be loaded (processing like a brewing stand or furnace, but for the gun its progress stops when the window is closed)
-after loaded the empty gun will be replaced with a loaded gun of the correct type
-breakdown/pick up the gun
-after the gun is fired it's replaced in the inventory with an empty gun.
I think I finally have some ideas to moderate the rifle without making it useless, and make it look really cool :
1/ Some instant projectile attacks would make the use of guns too easy, just make bullets not reach the target instantly, maybe as fast as arrows, and still a straight trajectory.
2/ Making gunners totally unseen after a shot would make them impossible to find out, then a smoke trail on the bullet's trajectory would be cool-looking and enable to track snipers. For the smoke, just use the same as the one that already exists in the game, it's more simple.
3/ In order to make bullets expensive for a reason, the rifle should be pretty hard to use but have a good firepower, maybe deal 5 damage like the bow. It would work by holding right-click to aim, and release to shoot. The longer you aim, the more accurate you are. Plus those rifles don't have a big charger and can contain one bullet only. Then it must be reloaded after each shot by holding the right-click again. Compared to the bow, it would be much more efficient over long distances but hardly useful at close range.
1.) I think that about 2x arrow speed would be better. Bullets IRL go very fast.
2.) A smoke trail wouldn't be very realistic, and would be weird. It's in this topic, actually, that here should be a sem-large smoke cloud when the weapon is fired.
3.) I think that about 16 damage (keep in mind you have 20 hitpoints) would be better than just 10. The idea is for the gun to be high damage, slow reload, and no arc. As for the charging, I like the idea that it can charge it's accuracy. But it shouldn't be reloaded like that. The unloaded musket/arquebus should be crafted with a gunpowder and iron ball to produce a loaded musket/arquebus.

It doesn't fit the genre. Would you want Vulcan Mini guns in Legend of Zelda? no.
The genre? Sandbox/Survival? By that logic, TNT and most Mobs wouldn't fit in, either.
This guy isn't suggesting M16s, he's suggesting an Arquebus , which is a very early firearm which was first used around the same time explosive weaponry was developed. Which is to say, TNT.

The game isn't medieval >.> It's fantasy. Bombs fit in Fantasy games, guns don't unless made very well. And anyway, if guns were included, they would be either

2. Useless.
Did-- did you read the first post? At all? The guns suggested here are well-balanced (To the point of being underpowered) and fit their own niche as an alternative/backup ranged weapon.
Yes, this game isn't medieval, but I fail to see how that is relevant. I also want to know what constitutes as 'fantasy', since I've seen many games which could be considered fantastical that include guns.
I believe I saw a mod spotlight on firearms for minecraft. I think the YogsCast did this spotlight during their industrialCraft mod spotlight with other kinds of mods. But still, guns be guns, and we all like guns. :3

Curse PremiumYeah, diamond tools are madness. They are much more "out if sense", but nobody objects them as they do with firearms... :dry.gif:

Curse PremiumI wanted to say that all processes in MC are too simplified, while guns should have less "simplify rate".

And care to give a reason as to why they're a bad idea, besides 'It's a fantasy game'?
Because swords never hurt anybody.

Hence why I said Useless. The guns in this thread just don't seem to have a point.
