No.
-Guns will be overused.
-Guns are to powerful.
-Guns aren't survival or RPG like.
-There's a thing called AdventureCraft, there are guns. Use it.
Yes.
-A gun would be an alternative to a bow, with different pro's and con's. It's not just a better bow.
-Not if balanced correctly, which the widely accepted stats of a gun suggested on this topic absolutely is.
-An AK47 or possibly repeater rifle, even, may be, but the suggested firearm here (matchlock or arquebus) is.
-Every mod that I have seen that has a gun in it does it wrong.
Also, READ THE F****** TOPIC!

You invade this world claiming it as your own simply by your presence.
You slaughter animals for their hides and flesh.
You destroy the landscape and gouge out the earth to build your monuments to vanity.
And yet you call me monster.

I'm not saying that I want guns, but only MODERN guns would fire too fast. This thread is about the pitiful, low-tech ones.

Sorta what he said. Going into your inventory, which doesn't pause the game, even in SSP, and putting the gun and 1-2 items in your crafting grid wouldn't be too fast by any description.

Sorry for the double-post, but I've been thinking about this:
Do the recently modified bow mechanics warrant change for the arquebus?
Sorry for the long words, I just can't think of any other way to say it.
I would say yes, because now the bow covers an even wider array of roles (before it was just medium/short range rapemachine, now it's a short/medium/semi-long range potshot tool).

I would like flaretide to elaborate on his reasons.
Also, if you have seen my post (its titled new Minececraft mode, its about an age development system. Simply put: stone age, bronze age, iron age...) What I'm trying to say is, should guns appear at a certain point like in my idea?

As in, if they were implemented, you would only be able to craft them after a certain number of days?
I don't think that would be a good idea in vanilla Minecraft. It would also require that things like TNT and minecarts be 'unlocked', if you will, after a certain time.

Christopher was hardly not a conquistador. He came to the Americas, his men raped, looted, and pillaged Native villages, he claimed already occupied land for a far off country, and all without regard for the locals.
The only difference is that he didn't claim the land for Spain.
All white countries did that in colonial times, but not just in the Americas
Bah anyone who says guns are too high-tech are stupid
ITS A SANDBOX GAME!
Meaning you should be able to do limiless things in it!
The problem is people are starting to veiw minecraft as more of an RPG/Adventure game and less of a Sandbox Game
Well, an arquebus can fit just as well in an RPG as in a sandbox game.
And I don't exactly agree on your view of the Minecraft sandbox mechanic. There should definitely be a tech limit, if that's what you're implying. Like seriously, would Minecraft honestly be as fun when you can go from diamond picks and bows to battlemechs and star fighters, when the most advanced material we have in the game now (technologically) is iron?
But, I'm beside the point of this thread. I restate my first sentence: An arquebus would fit just as well in an RPG as in a sandbox game.
And the real problem is basically your first sentence. When people hear the word 'gun' in the title of a suggestion on this forum, they instantly think of the noobish AK47 suggestions, pay no mind to the actual content of the suggestions and flame the topic to the Nether with statements such as, "GUNZ R TOO MODERN FFFFFU!!!!!!!!1!!!!!11!!!ELEVEN" and, "GTFO NOTCH SED HE NEVER ADD GUNZ HNGIHDUFBRJGBJB!!!!!!!!!111!!!!!!!!"
those people are stupid for 1) not reading the suggestion, and 2) believing an unconfirmed statement by Notch on word of mouth because they want to hear it.
Oh, and don't get me started on the people who say, "If you want guns go play Call of Duty."
I want to strangle every one of them (not really. I'm not a murderer.). Has there been an arquebus, or in fact any type of early muzzle-loading firearm, in any Call of Duty game? NO!!!
EDIT: I just checked out Minegunner. It's an amazing mod, but is isn't updated! Dang it!

I don't think that there should be any special effects for headshots. But, then again, something like a 50% chance of getting a crit when hitting the head would be cool, but this should also apply to the bow, to balance it.

This is one of my favourite suggestions. But have people decided on whether the gun's going to be flintlock(flint and steel) or matchlock(torch) yet?
The main suggestion here is an Arquebus, which is pretty much a manual matchlock. But a flintlock musket, while possibly a bit anachronistic, would be something more people would know and associate with early firearms. I'm pretty much fine with either, as long as it craft-reloads.

Actually, shift clicking makes that a much better idea. I also personally think that 1 bullet should be enough to kill an un armored player in one shot, to make up for the high resource cost and slow reload time.
