Just a small reward idea for exploring the ocean, there should be small chests rarely on islands with some useful items in it (kinda like the dungeons, except doesn't spawn monsters), it would contain things like iron ingots, gold ingots (cuz pirates) cocoa beans, etc.
If you wanna make it complicated, you could have a partially filled out map leading to treasure...
that last part wasn't serious, but this would be a cool idea that wouldn't take too much time to implement and would make sailing a bit more rewarding for the time it can take.
Not every idea needs to be super creative, it's just something to make ocean traveling less boring
I'd rather the suggestion be creative and new than "LOL CHEST ON ISLAND". A prize doesn't always have to be a chest filled with goodies, it could be palm trees (a new tree, a new color wood, ect.), or simply a better aesthetic value (such as a natural spring type area).
that can be a different suggestion, this is just for treasure on islands for people who sail a lot of distance, and the same can be said for chests in mineshafts and strongholds, yet they're still there
and the same can be said for chests in mineshafts and strongholds
However those have a place; strongholds have libraries, so the chests are to store books and papers. Mineshafts are...well, mineshafts. Don't tell me you've never made a temporary base inside your mine to store, smelt, and craft items...
This is just...what, suddenly there's pirates too? Where do they fit in?
well, it's the ocean, and if there're filled chests in places that means that other people would have had to be there at one point, so people hiding there **** on an island makes sense, I mean, for some it'd be better than a new type of wood, for others it wouldn't

Actually, that last part about treasure isn't as bad as you think. Not with the maps, but, the chests, just to make things a little less easy, could be buried under 1 block deep sand (since almost all islands have sand) or dirt/grass.
Maps could generate in dungeons or other loot chests, but this would be overly difficult because of how MineCraft saves maps, so it's kind of out of the question.

And coconuts?
This idea doesn't seem too creative.
