Okay so I was aimlessly blowing up villages and riding pigs to their doom the other day and realized;
"Hey, why can't I control a pig when I have a saddle?"
It annoyed me because such a solid feature could be added by simply making pigs controllable. It would make traveling (something not a lot of people do anymore in Minecraft) more fun, and a little more convenient and exciting.
The pig would walk at a rate of 1.5x our own, and it's sprint would be 1.5x ours. Eh?
Also, a special saddle could be made for pigs to have chests on their backs as well as you! It could be crafted as such:
It could have the same room as a single chest. And when the pig dies all the items are dropped, including the chest itself.
I think this would be a great way to get players more involved with travel and adventure, and I believe Mojang in future updates may add things to make travel even more tempting, so why not?
Getting a pig and your first saddle would effectively make walking to places obsolete altogether. It would change the look of SMP into a bunch of people riding around on pigs. You have to make some serious drawbacks to riding to make it unappealing somewhat, or people would ride them all the time, everywhere.
Not supported in its current form, as this is the problem every single ridable pig topic falls into, and trust me, there are tons of them. Next time, use the search bar.
Pigs are VERY slow. People would rather use sprinting instead.

I see what your point is, but the inconvenience of having to saddle up a pig, click to get onto it, and click to get off and do things would make it something people wouldn't use regularly, only for long distance trips. Due to the only slight increase it would just be annoying to use around the village. And considering saddles are rare to find, there wouldn't be a bunch of people riding around on them. At some point Minecraft does need something along the lines of this, and because the pig is basically useless now, it would add that much more of a use to them. Even if it's not perfect, a new feature added to the game rarely is. I bet Mojang could easily make this work, and bring back the glory the pig so much deserves.
Make pigs unable to jump while sprinting, and have their walking speed be 50% of ours. Sprinting is still faster. Also, you can only control them if you feed them an apple every...
I don't know, ten minutes?
There. Drawbacks!

Allocators are no longer the future, we have Hoppers now. I still like them, though.
I think pigs should be controllable it you ride them while holding wheat (because they follow wheat)
my thought to. They should follow the camera, as if they're turning to get the wheat, and switching away from the wheat will make them stop (or just walk around a bit).
Buuut, you can put the pig in a minecart. Can't really go exploring with it, but it will drag the minecart along.

Thank you for reading, and, "Bless your face!"
