I think that new ores should be added to minecraft. Don't get me wrong, I love good ol' iron and gold, and even with the addition of emerald in the new update, there are still only seven, and I think adding a few more, with their own purposes would be a great addition to minecraft, variety is the spice of life!
We at least need a tier between iron and diamond. There's a huge gap in both rarity & quality, and right now diamond feels very "tacked on" as the uber tier, as opposed to the other ores.
I think there are too many ores. Minecraft should be simple.
Minecraft does have quite a few ores, but there's really only 3 tiers of tools as gold is pretty much worthless & the only wooden tool that should be made is a pickaxe.
I hate to compare Minecraft to Terraria but Terraria has 5 basic tiers of tools (copper, iron, silver, USEFUL gold, Demonite), 2 specialty tiers (Meteor, Hellstone) and a bunch of specialty tools as well. And people don't complain that it's too complicated.
If u want more ores play tekkit..:D
Tekkit has a ALOT of ores to chose from
I agree with the poster above me.. Minecraft does not not any more ores in vanilla...

Don't forget the Hardmode ores: cobalt, mithril (which IMO is useless except for the drill), adamantine, and Hallowed once you finally defeat the hardmode bosses.

I'm pretty sure that doesn't help. If it's an issue with the main game, it should be added to the main game.
If a new ore was added to Minecraft, it should be more than just a "lol derp iron/diamond" bridge. It should have some advantage over Iron/diamond yet a disadvantage to either besides durability and power.
For an example, a (i'll just use random examples here) "lava crystal" item that creates tools as fast and as durable as Iron but also has the ability to burn enemies and automatically smelt items. However, it has a chance to damage the user and requires blaze rods instead of sticks.

Did something happen to you in your childhood to give you this unreasonable fear of rutabaga?
Augh... When are new users gonna make some effort and use the search function? How many threads do we need saying "we need more ores because it adds variety!" Either explain what ores are needed and why they're original, rather than just saying "we need more ores."
Not to mention all of the more ores suggestions are relatively dull with a group of angry thirteen year olds wanting a pick that is more powerful than diamond but as rare as coal.
Don't give these threads much attention. They generally disappear within the week.
I didn't even want MC to add emerald. In general, I think all the new ore mods are a bad idea because you have to ask yourself "What function does this new ore serve?" Far too many people just want new ores in order to have new ores without thinking of the purpose. MC is a case of less is more.
Looks look at the three "primary" materials for equipment:
Iron - Basic, general purpose material
Gold - Advanced, special purpose material
Diamond - Rare, high-quality general purpose material
If you add anything weaker than iron it's a waste. Iron is the default "metal" in MC. If you add anything stronger than diamond, it would be overpowered. That leaves you some room between diamond and iron to add a new material. Personally, I don't think that's necessary, but I'm not entirely against the idea if someone can make a reasonable suggestion.

And people wonder why their threads get locked.
Alright, let me clarify. When I posted this, I admit, I wasn't as clear as I should have been as to which ores I would like to see, and their purposes. I sorta just thought that Minecraft could use a few extra ores, you know, to give us a few options with tools, and a few more items that would be nice for our Minecraft experience. Like maybe silver ores to make house decorations for the houses/buildings we make, maybe stuff like aluminium to make cans for more food like soup, maybe even pyrite to trick those who want to make things with gold. Plus the pyrite could be made into a dye. I would also like to see new grades of tools, like steel, (which isn't an ore, I know). You can still craft/smelt iron with carbon to get it though. I also made this thread to get other peoples suggestions, to see what they would want, if anything. I understand that I could have been a bit more precise with my opening statement, but I just wanted to put an idea out there, you can't blame me for that.
Little description until several posts in, and even the ideas added later have been suggested many times before. Locking as redundant.

At least explain your idea JUST A LITTLE, instead of just "mincraft needs mo' ores"
