No no no, Minecraft won't be on Steam right now, and on the title screen, there's a chance that the splash text will say:
"Not on Steam!"

I hate all these kids trying to turn Minecraft into one of those big name titles.
Its an indie game, and the point is that its popularized by word-of-mouth. Thats why there are no Minecraft Tv commercials.
Yes, it MIGHT bring players into the game, but that means we will have to sacrifice update times and other stuff.
Notch and the Mojang team have stated many times that Minecraft will never be on Steam.
I'm not sure everyone understands what Steam is and is not -- it's not a "gaming platform" or engine, it's a content distribution service. It offers tools for gaming companies to collect money from customers and in turn deliver game files to them. It then handles the launching of those games on the user's computer. It offers other tools as well; some games are very heavily integrated into the Steam system (obviously the Valve games in particular), but for others I've downloaded it's very obvious that the only link between Steam and the game is that it handles downloading and updating, and launching. Some even make me go to their website to create an account, rather than using my Steam ID as the login, like the more integrated games.
So what Steam would offer is payment, content delivery, and launching.
And Mojang doesn't really need that for Minecraft. Minecraft is already wildly successful without needing the "advertising service"; it's done plenty well by word-of-mouth and sales on its own website. It doesn't need content delivery and launching; their in-house launcher and configuration control program (both the new and the old launchers) are perfectly capable of delivering the content and keeping clients up-to-date. It doesn't hurt that it's not that large, download-wise, of a game to begin with. And while some Steam games are mod-friendly, Minecraft has yet to get it's mod control working, which I believe would be a hinderance to modding your Steam copy.
So while there are many good things about Steam (I myself am a fan, really), Minecraft is in a position where none of those things are any advantage to it. That's why it's not on Steam now, and why it probably won't ever be. There's just no business incentive for them to do it.
If Mojang wanted Minecraft to be on steam, you think that they would have done so already?
Exactly. They already put it on Pi, I think they would have put it on Steam first. Plus, it would make it feel more of an indie game, which I say is not true.
So they let us have Minecraft on the Xbox marketplace and PSN two of the most Inflexible platforms ever where theyve already sold a bajillion copies but not Steam... I am confuse...
The argument I would make for Steam is Steam Workshop. I mean, sure, it could provide a nice storefront for selling the game outright, but think about how much better Mod management would be if you could subscribe to mods through the workshop and have Steam take care of making them work! Forge required?? No problemo, Steam knows that and installs it for you! Mod compatibility issues?? No problem! Steam knows!
And if Mojang wants to control the point of sale, they could still do that but then give the steam code so the game files can be managed by Steam.
Oh, yeah, you can add it as a non Steam game but you wont get updates, news, mods, workshop,...
That's the whole point of NOT manually putting a game like Minecraft in as a non-Steam game. If you won't get the updates like everyone else, can't use all the new things they come out with, and can't use mods, then what's the point of playing it?
So they let us have Minecraft on the Xbox marketplace and PSN two of the most Inflexible platforms ever where theyve already sold a bajillion copies but not Steam... I am confuse...
In my own eyes, I'd believe the whole point of putting it in those 2 places would have been to make it more accessible (even if not as updated), not to make it more well known. If the point was to make it more well-known (and it's popularity HAS been almost completely by word-of-mouth by the way) then wouldn't you think they'd have ads for it on other sites? That and they probably WOULD have gotten it on Steam by now as well.
In my honest opinion, I don't believe Minecraft should ever be on Steam. Notch has said it won't go on there, there's the splash in the game itself, and it doesn't even belong there. Steam, in my eyes, has plenty of games in its collection, anyway. It would also hinder updates, possibly cost more, and even then Minecraft would be losing some of the money per purchase to Steam's creators. To those who say they wouldn't, think of it this way:
Really? You think a FREAKIN' LIBRARY FOR GAMES is non-profit??? What would be the point of even having Steam then? Why not just go find the damn game itself online?
Why? Just why? Steam is a place for computer games to become known and bought. Minecraft is well known and spans several gaming platforms and electronic devices. Putting this thing on steam would increase the price, and therefore less people would buy it. I think that minecraft is just fine where it is, and so does most of the minecraft community.
1. Minecraft gift cards are not EVERYWHERE and you have to be a certain age to get a credit card, and who says that parents buy you everything? Steam, however, has gift cards in places Minecraft doesn't, so people can buy the steam gift cards, and in turn, buy minecraft + other games. This should net Minecraft a few million, actually.
2. Minecraft is a indie game, even if it goes on steam. Steam is NOT a publisher, and indie games rely on digital distribution, and it won't lose it's indie feel just because it's on some major client for gaming.
3. The steam work shop is a perfect place for minecraft mods, and can sort better then other minecraft mod sites. It would be even able to download maps, mods, and plugins for you automatically, just click the subscribe button, and it's in.
4. I think it would have pretty good support... look at all the other indie games out there. It would have quicker updates, and I think it'll be able to integrate into the steam client pretty well.
So they let us have Minecraft on the Xbox marketplace and PSN two of the most Inflexible platforms ever where theyve already sold a bajillion copies but not Steam... I am confuse...
It's simple really. No Xbox marketplace or PSN, no console Minecraft. No Steam, PC Minecraft does just fine.
The only reason Steam is even a thing is the easy management and excellent sales. Take that way and Steam is nothing.

What did you think I meant?
i5 4690k - Asus Z97-A - 8GBx2 of G.Skill DDR3 1600 - 2xCrucial BX100 500 Raid 0 - MSI GTX 970 Twin Frozr
NZXT Phantom 630 Black Windowed - EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 650W - Windows 8.1 and Ubuntu 15.04
Macbook Pro 13 with 512gb ssd - iPad Air 2
And if Mojang wants to control the point of sale, they could still do that but then give the steam code so the game files can be managed by Steam.
That still doesn't give a good reason for Minecraft should be on Steam. I don't believe it even belongs there.

Exactly. But popularity doesn't necessarily mean it should be on Steam...

Notch and the rest of the Mojang team have said that it will never go onto Steam due to legal reasons and other stuff like that.
