Well, for the past 3 weeks, I was working on an amazing redstone game. Now with the introduction of the Command Block, anyone that knows a small bit of redstone can do what I did in days. It really annoyed me, but I have already gotten a new idea. But that's not the point, the point is, that as a maker of PVP games I have some ideas for the new command block that would help game makers EXTREMELY.
Here is my list of ideas for the Command Block:
Groups:
With this command it would be something like this /add @n Red which would add the nearest player to the group named "Red" now to remove a person from a group would be /remove @n Red. Now, this dosen't seem like much, but imagine this. Say there is a war game with two teams, red and blue. Lets also say that there are capture points, and that when a point is captured by a specific team, that team gets somekind of advantage like a diamond sword. The problem with this is that, it would be impossible to give the items to only the blue team. If you typed /give @a 256 then everyone gets a sword, but instead they could have /give @a 256 Blue
By adding a group name to the end it would make that command only to that specifc group. All of the commands would be the same the only difference would be that you could add a group name to the end so that ONLY the members of that group get the command. Another example: /set spawn 60,60,60 Red. So now red team always spawns at that area.
Potion Effects:
This one is simple, you can have a command like /potion speed 2 999 . "Speed" is the type of potion, which could maybe be "poision" or "strength", you get the idea. "2" Is the power of the potion, an example is Speed II or Strength II, and the "999" is the ammount of seconds that it lasts. Another good idea is to replace the time with Infinity, so that a player or group gets the effect infinitly. This also goes with Groups so if a team earns a boost in speed the command would be /potion speed 2 120 Red. Now red team gets a speed II boost for the next 2 minutes.
Multiple Commands:
On the interface you can only run one command, what if the GUI showed five differnt places to type commands? This would save space on redstone by 5X. You could also have a timer where you can select a delay in the way the commands activate, example:. So the game teleports everyone to a room to fight, you can set the timer in the GUI so that after 2 minutes that same block then teleports everyone back to another room.
Healing And Hunger:
Another command I thought of is healing, this is probably the simplest, an example: /heal @a. This will make everyone heal at the start of a new game. Also /fill @a would fill everyones hunger bar which makes people waiting in lobbies not need food. This one is good for game makers and adventure map makers, /disable hunger. Self explanatory, no food would be required for the entire map.
Hope you enjoyed hearing my ideas! What do you think about them?

Hunger, health and potion effects are self-explanatory, should really be commands. I also suggest the ability to enchant tools using commands, would be interesting. As for multiple commands, Minecraft is built to work in modules, each block playing it's own, simple part and nothing more to accomplish something greater. Limiting to just one command per block simplifies it enough to be easily workable, and still provides the functionality if you just use multiple blocks. For groups, I actually created a post about possible additions to the command block, mostly it's logic, and groups is something I thought of to. I suggested a new block, and everything would be streamlined around both the command block and the new one, the Expression Block. My post throws back to much programming in perl, as the connotations are very similar to variable and array declarations. You should go check it out and see what you think.

Reason I thought if these, was that as soon as I heard about them my mind went crazy thinking of game ideas. It also thought of all the things that limits the builder. The hunger, and extra commands aren't really important, but the groups and potion commands should largely be considered.
Just had a thought. If there are 6 players in a game, and you run 6 Command blocks that TP one person each to a location, will every player be sent to his own location or will sometimes two people be put on the same spot...
Great idea.
I really like the ability to place potion effects on players with it. Also health and food should be added if they add potions as well. Multiple commands is basically a must have. I don't know why they don't add that.
Groups is a very interesting idea. It would be very helpful for maps with multiple users. I like this idea the most. Can be used for race for the wool, or other good games like that.
Good work.

Thanks, just added a reminder to press the green arrow in the corner.
One problem with this kind of thread is that the average player doesn't care about things like this and they usually just skip over it D:
I feel bad. About one million ideas for games popped into my head when I learned about this new block... but the ideas all evolved around using these additions.

Don't worry. As soon as Bukkit updates to 1.4 (you know, once 1.4 actually exists! xD) you'll have the benefit of hundreds upon hundreds of commands like these and more. And of course I wouldn't be surprised if many popular mods added commands, just for this purpose. Single Player commands will likely expand a good bit too!

Correct me If I am wrong, but wouldn't people only with those bukkit mods be able to play? I mean this for the vanilla game to where a person can just download, grab some friends and hit play.
they need to add the kick and ban commands but not useable with @a so you can get rid of griefers without having to shutdown you multiplayer lan server.
I support, this would be cool. Except the potions should be 1 2 999. 1 is the id for speed. I think that would be better. Also, command blocks weren't just introduced. They were introduced a while ago.

That would be hard to do. Right now, you can enchant something with commands. But it will only work if you are holding that item. The reason that enchanting with a command block would be hard to use is because they either have to be holding the item, or you have come up with a way to choose what item you want. This would be nearly impossible to do, because it would be impossible to know where someone will put their weapon or tool, unless you tell them to put it somewhere. I think it would be just too complicated.

The green arrow is for, if for some reason, you really like that post a lot. It may be that you agree with an argument, or something else. It isn't just for "if you support, give me a green arrow!". Because if you look at your profile, that makes your reputation higher. I don't think your reputation should necessarily get higher just because someone likes your idea.EDIT: Oh great. Ok, I just realized that this post is from 2012! Who brought it back up? It's very annoying when people do that, because then it gets confusing having to look at when it was made, and is annoying when the idea is no longer wanted or valid.

Other than that melikey.
Yea, the potion command would be a big help, but the main focus is groups.
While we're at it, why not a good old /kill command...

have a diamond
