Repairing tools/weapons/armo(u)r deletes any enchants that were on the previous tool, right? Isn't that annoying? Well, here's an idea.
When you repair tools with enchantments, the power of that enchantment will go down by one, or if they both have that same enchant, it will be averaged. I'll just give an example.
Tool 1: Efficiency II
Unbreaking I
Fortune II
Tool 2: Efficiency IV
Silk Touch I
When repaired, the two tools' enchantments will become this (-1 for normal enchants, averaged and rounded down for similar):
Repaired Tool: Efficiency III
Fortune I
Efficiency 2 and 4 were averaged to 3, Unbreaking and Silk Touch 1 went down to 0, and Fortune 2 went down to 1.
Also, once something has been repaired, it cannot be re-repaired (reason being so that people can't keep combining tools to make "Jesus Picks" or similar). Even if the tool lost its enchantment entirely, or the original two didn't have any in the first place, it cannot be re-enchanted, either. (As in the tags, this applies to all tools, weapons, and armor.)
interesting.... that would be nice although its not a big deal only enchantment I worry about is unbreaking and fortune tbh, and usually when I get a diamond pick with fortune 3 i just keep it for diamonds and coal and lapius, and just make another one for "normal" digging
I think it would be balanced if we could somehow repair an enchanted weapon and spend levels to keep the same enchantment. Got a nice pick? well for 60 levels you can keep it.
