This would add apple trees, a rare variant of oak trees, that create an abundant source of apples, and bacon, a rare drop from pigs. As shown later on, the two can also be used together to create a more powerful item.
Apple Trees
Apple trees spawn as 0.5% (1/200) of oak trees, meaning they spawn from oak saplings. They grow the same way as oak trees, with the possibility of a large tree spawning, the only difference is in the values associated with the leaf and log blocks.
The leaves are apple leaves. These would be a re-texture of oak leaves, but of course with a few apples to symbolize that they are apple leaves. These leaves have forty times the chance of oak leaves to spawn apples (20%, or 1/5 as opposed to 0.5%, or 1/200), and drop oak saplings at the same rate (5%, or 1/20). This means that apple trees cannot be farmed. They are only found when growing normal oak trees.
The log blocks of apple trees are also slightly different. They aren't very useful for making planks, as each one will only create two oak planks. They also aren't efficient fuel; as each log will only cook 1/16 of an item. However, they have a more important use explained later.
Bacon!
With this change, pigs will have a rare drop, much like Zombies, Zombie Pigmen, or Skeletons, and will use the same algorithm that all rare drops use (2.5% chance + .5% per level of looting). The rare drop is raw bacon. The bacon can be cooked, and will act as a cooked pork chop, restoring 8 hunger (foodLevel) and 12.8 saturation (saturationLevel). While that's good, the better use for bacon is to make applewood bacon.
The applewood bacon is simply created by using apple logs as fuel when cooking bacon. This means that you will need sixteen apple logs per piece of raw bacon that you cook, making the food somewhat expensive. However, applewood bacon will restore 16 hunger and (up to) 20 saturation, meaning that if the player has 4 or more hunger to begin with, applewood bacon will completely restore the saturation level.

Wow. This is a well-thought out suggestion for two overly suggested and always badly-thought out ideas! I support, and I will make a banner shortly. My only suggestion is that the apple tree does not ONLY use the apple leaves. Maybe 70% of the leaves will have the new texture, but the rest have the oak leaf texture. The texture on the leaf has no involvement with the amount of apples/saplings dropped, however. I am working ona support banner!

When I make banners, people always say "THANK YOU SO MUCH OMG YOU ARE AWESOME" but never give me a +1. It makes me sad.

I definitely see where you're coming from with that, but having regular oak leaves that have the increased apple drop rate would call for yet another damage value for leaves. I'm trying to keep the idea as light on data values as possible, but still, I might add that to the OP.

This does look really nice though. Look at the fruit trees in Tropicraft and you will know what I mean.

It's totally reasonable to have a decent way of getting apples. However I think that an apple tree would diminish the rarity of the golden apple, and create an imbalance. Sure you could argue that gold is the tougher ingredient to get, but then we wouldn't really need this supply of apples.
I like the idea of bacon, gives an incentive to farm pigs.

Yes, they do look pretty nice. Thanks for the support.
