With the release of Snapshot 12W32A I had some ideas for adventure maps
New commands:
/Setpotion [Player] [Potion Effect] [Time of Effect/Toggle] - Set potions effects to players.
/View [Player] [Time/Toggle] - Able to see a player's FOV for short time. Press Esc to turn off /View.
/Setrules [Rule 1] [Rule 2] [Ext.] - Able to set the rules.
/Rules - See the rules.
/Skin [Player] [Skin URL] - Temporary changes/adds to skin (If somethings invisible on the skin , it wont change anything).
/Settexturepack [Player] [Texturepack Download link] - Able to set a texture pack like in some servers.
New adventure blocks:
Schematic Builder Block: When right clicked on you will be in a small world where you can build anything, when done with design you right click the Schematic Block in the build area and you name the design.
Schematic Load Block: Loads a schematic when powered by redstone. When right clicked you choose the schematic you want (Schematics are not saved per world).
Letter Blocks: Letters (and other symbols like numbers) the size of regular blocks. Used for credits or other labeling.
Invisible Block: A block that you can't see. When right clicked you can edit if you're able to walk through it or not be able to.
Infinite piston: A piston than can push any amount of blocks if it's seen in Far Render Distance.
Generation block: When powered by redstone it will destroy itself and create a structure. You can choose the thing it generates, like a village or stronghold.
Other things:
When shift-right clicked with an item in creative you get a infinite stack of the item you got. Useful for dispensers.
Mob Spawners in creative.
Burning and freeze as a potion effect.
New tab in creative with all adventure related blocks.
New button on home screen to easily get adventure maps. Once you download them you can play them in a list in the adventure map button.
Able to see a list of commands in the Command block.
Wow, that's awesome, I like the /setpotion, invisibleblock and schematic block. Those are good idea's it would be pretty cool to see them or some of them in the next update

Don't see it as being too useful adventuremapwise, but might be useful for testing purposes.

Do you mean /gamerule?
Or do you mean the rules of the map?
If then, you can set a redstone timer to a command block that will /say the rules.

I don't see this as being implemented - skin servers are super buggy as it is right now.

Sure, but instead of the download link, it will have to have the file path of the texture pack, such as:
C:\Users\WaterTipper\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\texturepacks\Matt_Damon_Craft.
But different operating systems have different file path for the folder, so it won't really work.

That function is already used for splitting stacks in half.

When I made this post I didn't know exactly how command blocks work. I agree with most of your statemates.
/View - You can see what another player is seeing. (Kind of like Portal 2)
/Setrules /Rules- I think at the time when I made this topic, I think /say or /tell was buggy.

Isn't it just right click to split an item? Mob Spawners in creative.
Doesn't Noteblocks and Chest use tile entities? Burning and freeze as a potion effect.
Freezing would make it so you can't move, if your near a light source, the timer would go faster, and if you get hit by an axe/pickaxe the timer would go down by 5 (I probably should of explained that in the OP) New button on home screen to easily get adventure maps. It would be like getting texture packs in SpoutCraft.
