Agreed. You'd expect something as rare as emeralds to be useful in making sick weapons and tools, but they were made into a currency only ore. Apart from crafting it into a block, emeralds are worthless.
Maybe it should be used as armor, boots give you a infinite speed 1 boost and lasts a little bit longer than gold [cause its even more rare] i guess it could be used for leggings as well.. maybe if you have both you'll have a infinite speed boost 2. But it won't be useful for chest plates and helmets.
Another material that i think maybe should have more uses is Lapis, it could be used not just a dye, but maybe in potions too! But idk what effects it would have.....
Along with the potion idea maybe the new potion the night vision one can be made with glowstone dust!
'Emerald is currency' seems to be a bit of a redundant reason for turning it down. I support emerald tools because emeralds are a gem, like diamond, and being part of the gem/ingot group, it would be a good opportunity to fill the massive gap between iron and diamond durability. The jump is quite drastic, and the hole should rather be filled than left open. Really though. 33 Gold, 60 Wood, 132 Stone, 251 Iron, most is roughly double. then from 251 to 1562?? That's a bit out of place, x2, x2, x2, x6. I'd support emerald being around 600 uses. That way its x2, x2, x2, x2.5, x2.5. Less drastic of a rise.

That makes a lot more sense to me funky3000. The Blaze rods as sticks could make weapons and tools have a small flame effect so that you can mine slightly faster and cause more damage to mobs, and to equalize the effect they could add a new achievement for damage in one hit or using blaze rods differently, they would have to think of what to say at the moment because I'm not really sure.
Sorry if this post is a little late and may be counted as trying to bump up this thread but I have other things to do in my life and on the internet at the moment so can't really pay that much attention to this. I am very sorry if this looks like I'm trying to bump my thread up but I'm really not, I'm just not on here that much.

Perfection is an illusion that we strive for that only results in excellence

Does every single new ore have to be a tool? I'm serious, I'm fine with emeralds being used as currency and fancy blocks. No need to make every new ore a tool.

Blaze rods sound really cool for tools, but think about it; won't they burn straight through your hands?
Maybe holding a blaze rod tool will slowly take health away at first, but then it will later catch you on fire, and eventually kill you.
(Unless you have a Fire Resistance potion, or an enchantment on the tool that gets rid of the burning effect)
The main reason emerald tools and armor would be a bad idea is that you can find a village, harvest their wheat, sell the wheat to the farmers and repeat. All in all, a full set of emerald armor and tools would cost a fixed 35 emeralds.
Buying a full set of iron armor and tools would cost between 54 and 67 emeralds.

Support the blaze rods, not the emeralds.
