I just thought of a weird, but kind of cool idea. On the bottom of the ocean, you should be able to find giant clams. They'd essentially be chests with a clam-like texture. When you right click on it, it would open, but no GUI comes up, and a pearl pops out. They should have a 20% chance of containing a pearl. If you leave a clam underwater for about 10-15 minecraft days, it will possibly regrow a pearl. The pearl could possibly be used as a future potion ingredient, possibly for water breathing. It would also be cool if they could be harvested and used as chests. I'll keep expanding on this idea.
Well, it gives a bit more reason to go to the bottom of an ocean. I'd think it'd better if the clam could just be destroyed for the pearl, because players are gonna forget which clams they stole from and not want to keep track of "was it 10-15 Minecraft days that I stole from this clam? Or this clam?"
The purposed idea of clams as chests is super pointless, though.

what does the pearl do?
and what is the point of this idea?
Just what I was thinking.
Well, the oceans are relatively empty. I thought this would be cool.
I agree, the oceans are too barren and lifeless.
(Except for those squids - stupid [email protected])
Notch had planned to add Whales, Fish, and Coral back then, but no one knows what happened to them
I'm not sure about pearls being used as a potion ingredient though, seems kind of silly. Maybe we can all find a different use for them?
It would be kind of neat if you could re-purpose them as chests. It would be cruel to the clam, but still pretty neat.
Then I was dissapointed.
Exactly what I had in mind.
Re-purposing them as chests would be cool indeed.
