Okay.
It's pretty well thought out, and wouldn't be too bad, except for one bit.
It's not a "tame a dragon and shoot firbalz evrywher!!!!!11!!!!!11one!1!!!!!!1!!!!!" thread, but I see a bit that says to me "Tame a dragon and defeat the purpose of danger on the ground!".

you forget the fact that by the time a dragon is tamed, you wouldnt be in danger on the ground anyways, since you'll be suited up with diamond gear and ****...

EXACTLY! You'd be so suited up it wouldn't matter. Maybe you'd have to tame it by feeding it like enderdragon eggs or something rare XD.
Not to mention you still have the danger of the ground... falling off the dragon!
But really >.> if you consider riding a dragon only there to avoid the overworld dangers you just lack scope. Imagine the view? It's be like riding a cart in the sky.... wait... why haven't i THOUGHT OF DOING THAT TILL NOW!!!

actually, there's a new icon for 1.4 inside items.png that looks like a four-pointed star. its possible that the "star" would be an item used in taming/befriending.
Love the idea. I think that the dungeons shouldnt be too common. Much less common then mineshafts and ravines (which are wayyyy too common in my opinion). Especially if it has mineral blocks inside. Support
Next to make minecraft REALLY brutal, we need to add
JOTUNN!!!!!
AAAAARRRGHHH \m/ \m/ \m/
(jotunn meaning giant by the way )
I support this and want it in the game
But hey, lets not have tamable dragons, that really would screw up the game and destroy PVP haha, I like the idea but its OP Unless all you can do with the dragon is fly OR you use something as ammo, something rare
@your idea, it wouldnt be any more OP than riding in a boat, would it? all it does is allow extra maneuverability in a place normally hard to move around in. and i would think that firing down would be tougher than it sounds.

Firing down? I thought that everyone figured that shooting fireballs whilst piloting a dragon would send the fireballs in the direction of your mouse, not directly down. You do know that dragons spit fire out of their mouths and not their arses, right?
And no, its not the flying thats too OP, its the shooting you could do while in a dragon. It would be like fighting knights and archers in a fighter jet.

ah, was talking about using a bow and arrow, not dragonfire. *mistake realized too late*
with the way hitboxes work, you'd hit the dragon unless you were shooting at an angle. if you were to fly low enough for fire to work, you'd be incredibly easy to pincushion by archers hiding behind rocks. it'd be like fighting a dragon in Skyrim, now that i think of it. all that controllable dragons would do is add another dimension of combat to the game. there's currently more than just melee and archery, there's the use of potions, lava buckets, traps, etc. a flying mount such as a dragon would be the icing on the cake.

A creeper egg....o-o
yeah. in the previous page i mentioned having to put not just items into befriending it, but time and tedium as well. its like a test of patience.
how would the game get messed up?
actually, Notch promised a red dragon. when asked about it in his AMA, Jeb said he would eventually get to it because Notch promised it.

i HAVE always wanted a hostile flying mob... maybe not beholders, though. gryphons? Rocs? some sort of hybrid winged Creeper?
