In the ruins you should have some giant rock golem who hurls rocks at you. (dmg 15-20)
Wherever he walks there will be craters and the only way to kill him is to make him follow you into a body of water were he will sink (duh)
OR, IF YOU LEad him to lava, he turns into a magma beast, sorry capslock
I'm beginning to think that nobody actually reads the first post before suggesting things. Rock golem is already there as are a few things that people have subsequently suggested.

New idea!
phoenix-
About as big as a giant eagle, they are unreasonably aggressive, attacking anything that lives. They also set fire to anything they touch. Even you... Phoenixes are unique in the fact they ire technically invincible, when "killed" tey become an egg for 3 minutes, this egg is a entity and block. You can carry this egg. This mob is unique in the fact you can use it for sicking it on enemy establishments (think what a phoenix can do to a tavern)! The pheonxes live in bigger parts of ruins and caves, alone.
stats:
hp-
100
attack-
fire!-sets anyone within 1-2 tiles of the phoenix on fire, even docile mobs, and flammable blocks. The phoenix homes in on targeted foes to set them on fie, their fast!
size-
4x1x1, 4 blocks long, 1 blocks wide (without wings) and tall, 7 blocks wide with wings.
spawn-
ruins (rare), deepest caves (very rare)
Unique-
-when "killed" it drops egg, this is actually the phoenix, going to be re-born, 3 minutes before that. Its a special block, phoenix spawn is limited to 1 phoenix a chunk in ruins/ deepest caves, so no overwhelming phoenix swarms..
-water is like lava to this thing, survives in lava with ease.
traits-
chaotic/psychotic*, flying, fast, solitary, magic, unique, offensive/support
spoil-
egg, indestructible, becomes a Phoenix in 3 minutes, placeable block.
*attacks everything
difficulty (1-10), varied-depends on were encountered, this foe sets you on fire when touched, very dangerous in narrow corridors, or forests, but easy out in the open areas, like grasslands or deserts. This foe is technically invincible, but you can use the egg to your advantage!

Magic have a bigger priority than Technology when it comes to combat, but Mining and Crafting a bigger priority to Magic.
The reason i want them to appear in caves/ ruins is because the skies are already swarmed with eagles, giant eagles, wyrms, aerozans, and even jet nautilus! Maybe they wander? (that may not be a good idea...) Ashes instead? I guess. what do ya think you can do with the ashes? You can pick them up, but if you decide to keep them for too... long, it may resurrect and set you on fire...
EDIT: wait, they should spawn in volcanoes!

i know keanut said a allredy suggested monster type, but what he suggested is not exactly the same, if no-one can come up with their own variations, we would be stuck with a rock golem that just throws rocks and moves slowly.

Your friendly neighborhood dragon. Don't be scared, I won't bite!
I am here for you, Don't be afraid to send me a message.
the neptune craftertrap should look like its grass, with slight spiral pattern on it. when you step on it, it would open and trap you as you die. you have to attack the walls of its stomache to get out
chrome, I guess that could work, as it would be hard to tell while fighting spiders... I think neptune crafter traps would get annoying... Maybe they trap other fiends too?

Im tired of fighting animals and the un-dead...
we need some foe that uses technological stuff, like the airships or iorn swords, also use tactics instead of ethier "stay still... shoot arrows", "run into you" or "jump at you"... Ya, know?

You're right, I vote Combine.
The Universal Union will assimilate humanity one way or another.
Nah, but really, maybe some evil suit of armor that spawns in dark cobblestoned areas and drops some mediocre damaged armor pieces when killed.
Kind of similar to the Sand Worm, except stationary. Whenever walking through the desert, the Antlion will detect if a player travels over it, and it triggers a sound. Following this, every sand block directly above the sand lion disappears, and each layer of sand would disappear, causing the above layer to fall towards the Antlion, until eventually you would be left with a large gaping hole with the Antlion at the bottom. One or two hits from it would do a player in, considering that you have ample opportunity to avoid it, considering the falling blocks, the noise, and how quickly sand can be broken to make an escape.
Although, I especially like the fact that them being stationary makes it so that bases can be built around them, using them as both a trap and decoration.
Kinda like the old idea I had for the sandworm, that sounds like a good use of giant versions of natural insects. Althought I've never seen one in real life, they were amusing traps in SimAnt.
When i think about it, We need something to prevent the massive light ****-fest that half of the MP world is gonna have so that half of these mobs can spawn.
With that said, I suggest:
The Light Eater
Unhostile. No Hp, Dissappears when crosshair is placed over the glowing heart on its chest. Appearance of your average, everyday white ghost; maybe slightly transparent?
Floats slowly from one light source to the next, sitting at it for X* seconds "eating the light".
Spawns when 60%(?) percent of the map is permanantly lit up. The further past 60% you go, the more start spawning.
*=Maybe depending on the light source, they might take longer. IE a torch last 6 seconds under their gaze, but a lantern lasts 10 seconds.
Spawns when 60%(?) percent of the map is permanantly lit up. The further past 60% you go, the more start spawning.
So i assume they wouldnt be in infdev?
I have no clue how Infdev's gonna work, so i just assumed it would be a world 8x earths surface with a **** load of people running around on it. If 1000 (lol) people all log into one world and torch spam, i think they could lock down a good portion of the world with light. (course you still need the resources)
And then he hurls meteors on you :tongue.gif:
Hatchlings!!

*lifts up lid*
*poos*
then you fall in and slowly die...
What would work for some turret-like fiend? Like a slow mobing foe that stays till when shoots, and has a lot of hp, but turns very slowly.
facepalm of the month- dra6o0n
There are lemurs that do that.
It helps the plant.
Does anyone know about how many mobs notch is adding? Is it going to be just a few, or lots?
