I thought of a new volcano foe, a mega beast one!
(maybe it can replace the balrog?)
Obsidian giant
lore:
A massive spectral giant made of obsidian and diamond, the embodiment of greed and riches. This monster thankfully may only attack those mad with greed and foolishness. They wander the lakes of lava in a volcano, aimlessly.
rarity:
megabeast, spawns in volcanoes.
Hp:
400(200 hearts)[100 arrows]
attacks:
-lava wave; jumps to make a 2 block high wave of lava that's effective for 10 blocks.
-diamond shard arrays; varied 12 shot bursts of shards of diamond at you, different patterns of shards.
(2 dmg a shard)
-kick;if your close, it will kick you, the knok back is bad. It sends you back 10 blocks! (10 dmg)
Size:
20 blocks high, 10 blocks across
mobility:
very slow, immobile when shooting diamond shard arrays.
spoils:
16-24 diamond, and 16-24 obsidian.

giant ant colony's with huge cave systems and they only attack if you enter the queen ant(boss) room the ants are weak and (one block tall )except for the occasional auto attacking solider (2 blocks tall) the giant ants would have rooms of crops and loot also mob spawners that spawn ants in the queen room and the solders would drop drop ant armor witch would tack all the damage from the first 2 attacks instead of the first 1 and after that it is like iron armor normal ants would drop any blocks they have mined in there tunnels so you could kill a harmless worker and be flooded with riches
the ant tunnels could have tons of rooms and open in to caves possibly the ants could tunnel themselves and expand there kingdom (more like queendom ) so that you might find an entrance and enter into a vast tunnel system witch would come prelit with glowing blocks of some kind or torches tunnels would be 2 blocks high
giant bees with hives a in cliffs this would only be added if notch dose flying things hives are like ant hives with one main room and a queen wondering around but these hives don't grow like ant hives branching from the main room would bee a few more rooms bees would fly around and go to and from the hive they would always attack ants and they would kill any ant they attacked and themselves(if they attack the player 2 hearts of damage and poison also the queen would have limitless stings bees attack if you attack the or get to nearer the queen they drop poison or poisoned stingers for use as weapons or in weapons the queen drops here wings witch allow you to fly using the q and e as up and down and they would have about 15 to 20 minutes of flying before they ran out
giant wasps only rarely seen flying to and from there small hagging nests under cliffs the attack on site and sting for half a heart of damage and they poison if killed(3 hits with iron and 2 with diamond sword) they give wings which allow flight for 3 to 6 minutes and there nests can be destroyed if the one block connecting them to the cliff is destroyed when the nest is destroyed the wasps all die and don't drop anything in less they have been attacked previously
giant termites like ants but with colony's that have huge above ground complexes termite solders drop termite armor (ant armor with a different look ) they destroy trees when killed they drop all the wood they have eaten they attack if you enter the queen room with the spawners there mounds are huge but do not grow they are rarely seen but if you get near a nest you see tons of termites
spiders attack all insects all insect types attack each other all insects do low damage to spiders and scorpions(like spiders with poison attack and low jump) spiders and scorpions go out of there way too kill insects
sorry for the run on paragraphs
if notch dose not put these in the game he could add them in a colony's expansoin pack after the game is finished

More mobs only if combat gets better. No point in making new mobs if all you can really do to them is stare at them through your window or block them off then trap them.
Adding a metric ****ton of mobs makes it really complicated. I think it would be better with a less complex list.
Preferable enemies that haven't been in every fantasy RPG ever. No scorpions, no mages, no golems, no lave and ice versions of everything, no bats, mummies are cheesy as hell. The game already has the four most common enemies ever, it doesn't need any more totally clichéd mobs.
It also doesn't need to have every mythological creature that's ever been thought up.
I think we need more friendly mobs (guardian types) or at least some infighting in the nasty mobs. As a whole this is awesome, crazy good ideas for some really fun mobs
I love the idea of the Balrog! it would have to spawn in very large open tunnels underground to actaully move around though. ( That was my favorite thing about LoTR )

We are not retreating, We are simply enitiating an assault in the opposite direction of our enemies!
I like this idea a lot...with one exception, personally I think flying cubes would be retarded. (No offence cube lovers)
I propose
peaceful:
Green mobs
blue mobs
Easy:
Green mobs
yellow mobs
blue mobs
Normal:
Green mobs
yellow mobs
blue mobs
red mobs (no large mobs or rare red mobs)
Hard
Green mobs
yellow mobs
blue mobs
red mobs (all)
Custom:
in this difficulty you can personally set monsters on or off.
Sheep (x)
Balrog (x)
Cubids( )
Changing the difficulty changes health details as it normally would (healing on peaceful)
Allowing the use of saving your custom difficulty would be nice.

Scorpions aren't in every fantasy RPG; there are no "mages" on the list; what's wrong with golems?; The only thing with an ice version is a sprite; the only things with fire versions are sprites and golems; there are no bats on the list; mummies are cheesy, but that's really just a reskinning of the zombie to match a desert biome; Last time I checked, creepers are unique to minecraft; the list doesn't contain even a thousandth of every mythological creature ever thought up; a lot of the enemies I came up with on the spot, or took from people who came up with them
Also, one of the disclaimers of the list is that it suggests a ton of mobs, knowing that that many couldn't ever be implemented.
Other commenters, sorry I ignored you, and for the probable grammar errors, but I ran out of time, got to go.

The only thing I really want added is a regular chinese dragon. In general, they are actually friendly if you can appease them, (Which is amazingly difficult since they don't care about gold diamonds etc., more about books and knowledge and wisdom.) I know, it's just another dragon, but it serves the kind of mega beast / rare boss that if you can actually get him to like you, he can give you benefits. i.e., heal you, or increase your farming capabilities, etc. etc... If you tried to attack you however, he would fly away and control the river he lives near (In general, chinese dragons live near sources of water) and makes the water shoot at you, hitting maybe 3-5 hearts of dmg, depending on difficulty... He also has normal biting attack, but the water manipulation thing he does when he is either desperate or is just warming up. If you kill him, he drops his egg, that can be hatched etc... the baby dragon can be a tamed dragon, etc.
Chinese Dragon:
Health: 30 hearts. 4-5 hits with diamond sword, 40 arrows.
Size- 10 long, 1 wide.
Forms of attack: claw- 3 hearts- bite- 4 or 5 hearts (UPDATE: Water manipulation could just be a block of water shot at you 6-7 dmg, (includes 6.5 dmg) stuns. Not a stream of water anymore because of Notch and his hate of fixing the water physics...)
Hope this is good, lives anywhere where this is FRESH water.
There could be an Imperial dragon which is basically more powerful, like +5 hearts, a little bigger, like 2 blocks, and instead of green he could be a light blue, like crystal, and all the attacks +1... It seems that the chinese dragon is the equivalent of a gryphon, and that's not the case- dragons in general are more powerful, so I want to give that sense, but I don't want it overpowered... HOPE THIS IS A GOOD AND APPROVED ADDITION!!!!!\
BTW the dragon will usually fly, since a lot of them can fly without wings traditionally, so he will float normally but can fly relatively high, not as high as airships however.
(maybe it can replace the balrog?)

Dragons need to be implemented. No arguments.
