For those of you who joined just to rage about those of us who enjoyed how hard minecraft was before 1.8,
PLEASE read this all the way through.
As you have probably noticed by now, Hunger regenerates your hearts pretty fast (or you keep randomly losing hearts while wondering why your food wont heal you). This would not be a problem if food was less abundant, but the truth is it is thrown in your face. Before you start groaning about another nostalgic post that completely ruins minecraft, please read on, it will most likely change your mind. Without further delay, here are my ideas:
First, Slow down the healing from food. This one is obvious, and at first seems to weaken hunger a bit much, but as i have been saying, please read on. To balance this out, food would heal you a bit when you eat it.
Food would not heal you much, but rather a heart or so [suggest below] each piece you eat.
I have added a poll to get a count of who thinks what, if you feel another option should be added, please post below

I actually had a similar idea, though mine also involved adding an early brewing system so you could get used to health potions earlier in the game.

Woah, didn't realize this was posted before... I have to say i agree with the hunger part (herp derp), and i wish the failed potions were part of our current brewing system, but i think that your idea has players getting health potions a bit too early on

Well, that was the point; you get weak health potions at the start to serve as your health regen and to get you aquainted with using potions so the Brewing Stand will be a seamless transition.
But the problem is that sometimes in battle you need quick health. I think that they should make food heal so just a tiny bit each time so you can spam it.

I haven't even bought MineCraft, I don't have the money...
I could actually live with health regeneration being slowed down (or at least, scaled by difficulty), but I think the part where food can heal you slightly needs to be scrapped. That would ruin the integrity of Golden Apples, the Potion of Healing, and the Potion of Regeneration.
Another thing, is that adding both a slight nerf, then a slight buff to the hunger bar nearly equates to not changing anything at all.

Hey, you there. Yes, you! Are you thinking about posting a suggestion on the forums anytime soon? If so, please read this before doing so.

The adding a heart or so, was the part i cared less about, but as said before, if regen sped up when you hadn't taken damage recently, OR it was scaled by difficulty would be great.
I am adding a poll

The hunger we have now is a great system, but I still believe quite a bit of difficulty was leaked when 1.8 came
There you go. More difficulty in combat.
