I saw a thread about 1.3 terrain generation, and it mentioned floating islands. That got me thinking...what if there was a floating island biome? It could have a couple of things from the Aether mod, like the gravitite ore and block, a new mob perhaps, and maybe a unique village type, where you can trade for items and blocks not found anywhere else except for creative mode, like spawner blocks and eggs.
As for the gravitite, they could be a new kind of redstone device. In the Aether mod, if you powered a gravitite block, it rises. However, what I'm thinking about is this: if you power the block, it glows a little and rises, but if you power it a second time, it goes dark and falls again. This could allow for some odd contraptions. Also T-flip flops. The only thing is...I don't know for sure what would happen if a falling block collided with a rising one. I'm thinking they would cancel each other out and just hang there in mid-air, and not simply pass each other and continue on.
Floating islands and adding the Aether are two of the most annoyingly common suggestions. Congratulations for putting them together.
Well, at least it's in the right section...

Maybe, but most of those suggestions are for a whole new dimension of nothing but floating islands. This is just for a rare biome with a single large island, with maybe a few outliers.
I really like the idea of a floating island biome. I want to live on a floating highland. No new mobs or blocks please! Just normal animals, monsters and ores. Maybe all ores could spawn in the floating island, instead of just coal. If there has to be a new ore in this island, make it sapphire, only used for a utility.
Good general idea, but adding a new ore and FOUR mobs to just one biome is silly. Why do we need a new ore? And you do realize there are only ~4 passive normal mobs right? I like the generation, but not the addons.

Yeah, 4 might be a bit much. Maybe 1 at most. I figured there should be at least some reason to go there besides being a floating island. For the mushroom biome, it's the mushroom cows and mycelium. For this, I thought the gravitite would be good, especially for the potential uses it could have,

Well, I guess the floating islands i see from time to time in minecraft are in consideration for a biome that can make many "mistakes" to generate them........

i think this is a great idea. i like the idea of adding "Special Village" to the biome. having the the grav. ore and blocks would be a little much but it would also be nice if they increased the spawn rate of mushroom biomes along with this if they added it cause i have never found one in my worlds. what you could also do is make the spawn rate of valuable ores go up so they are more common.

I am ninja'd far too often.
Oh ok, I thought you meant like floating over the void.
In that case, then it sounds like it could work
