I was thinking, since most biomes have rain and taiga has snow, what if the deserts had sandstorms? Just lower visibility and have particles flying around Maybe something that simulates sand in the eyes?
Deserts wouldn't be so...stale.
Good Idea But I Doubt Mojang Will Ever Add This To The Game
I Support You But, Thats still not what mojang is working on now they are working on the more mechanical side of things.
Minecraft isnt exactly the most efficient game and sandstorms would require a lot of particles which would be very hard to optimize on minecraft, on top of that, its a bit of a game breaker in the desert cuz you cant see, just my opinion

Would be very interesting if the top layer would literally detach and roll about, creating a rolling wave of sand blocks with a plume of sand particles both infront and behind. Lag would prolly be horrible though.
I like this idea also I know this won't be added but I want to say it still what about sand worms that pop out of the ground during sand storms and attack you they would be 15 to 20 blocks long and wouldn't actually borrow in the ground just seem like it.
It should also add some sort of thick brown fog effect to extremely lower visibility.
And maybe it would deal half a heart of damage now and then unless you had a helmet on?

All you would have to do is recolor the rain texture and make it blow diagonally, then decrease the viewing distance.

GENERATION 16: The first time you see this, copy it into your sig on any forum and add 1 to the generation. Social experiment.
Wasn't there a potion that limited your visibility in a snapshot but never got added to the game? Couldn't mojang just make that potion effect the player when they get into a sandstone.
I think this idea about sandstorms is great, but the idea of sandstorms moving sand about is really terrifying. Just imagine it. You are strolling in a desert when suddenly a sandstorm attacks you. Layers of sand shift everywhere. They try to bury and suffocate you to death. Cactus and NPC villages get buried whole. Your visibility reduces to almost zero while you fight against a raging, solid sea of sand. And when it finally subsides (if you are not dead yet) you look around. Mountains of sand everywhere. Not a single landmark in sight. And you have limited resources. Creepers advance towards...
Wait. I'm making it too dramatic. But you get the point. You can't practically survive a sandstorm if blocks of sand actually move about unless you are capable of building an emergency shelter in five seconds and have a compass with you.

Also, sand blocks could move around during it.

Im not exactly the best at Photoshop, so forgive me xD

Edit:Oh and sorry I went off topic

There's yet more to come!
All you would have to do is recolor the rain texture and make it blow diagonally, then decrease the viewing distance.
Does it make an annoying sound?
If no, then maybe. It seems odd, though, that NPCs would settle the most hostile biome instead of something like a jungle or a forest.

so maybe i could post when its done
