We need one type of block that can be destroyed, but only by explosions. Not quite as tough as obsidian, but tougher than anything else.
Think about it. You stock up all this dynamite from killing creepers, but what do you use it for? You can't go blowing your way through a mine when there's rare resources you wanna keep intact. And you can't dig a house that way either because then you have to place blocks all over to even out the edges. Dynamite has no real use when it comes to practicality. Sure it's fun to blow things up, but it's not that helpful.
Imagine if some obstacles, then, were made of this block type I'm proposing. Perhaps certain mini dungeons containing rare items. Or perhaps it's craftable. Maybe you want to seal up some treasure but you want to be able to get to it in the future in some awesome way?
So I suggest a new type of block, that only explosions can kill. Creepers and dynamite, to make dynamite useful but so creepers can remain a threat.
This is actually an awesome idea. I'd be okay with either "crying obsidian" or a new stone like "Granite" or some other abundant, really-hard stone. The catch, though, is that it would have to have a 100% drop rate from being exploded, because there's no other way to get it than TNT.

Or its sole purpose would be for adventure maps. We now know Jeb is extending the functionality of Adventure mode, this block would be creative only of course. Catch is, there needs to be either place-able TNT in adventure mode (Which in maps would then ignite with a redstone signal from a lever or something) or throw-able zelda-style bombs, which in adventure mode only break said block.
Of course, the block would function the same in survival mode, but obtainable only through hacks/smp commands, and/or used in a new dungero *hint hint*
well i guess there is many sorts of explosive proof blocks like in motherload, you cannot drill through, but you can blow up the boulders.
the dynamite could just be gunpowder, sand, and string, going up.
ill see if i can get the proper recipe on...
String Gunpowder Sand
Well there isnt the images on Emoticons, so i added keys right next to them.
pretty much the item would be called 'Stick of dynamite' and the block would be called 'Boulder'. The 'Stick of Dynamite' is thrown like a snowball/egg/enderpearl and glows like TNT for 2s before it explodes with a small (but harmful!) blast. its simply half the blast radius of the TNT. for the 'Boulder', The boulder has a resistance of -1 (same as bedrock) and a blast resistance of 10.
There is your answer. (I would recommend putting this into your main post for more yes) I appprove this suggestion.

this dynamite can be thrown, or shot out of dispensers.

Do you like red panda's? They are so cute! Message me if you like the Red Panda!
I really like this idea. I just about never use TNT, except for the novelty of it. But if there were places where you actually needed it, that'd make for some interesting problem-solving, since you might need to be careful not to damage surrounding things.
Would it be enough for it to be a rare and desirable placeable block, or would there need also to be some naturally spawning resource that is only found inside the natural deposits? Say, emerald ore is only found surrounded by this stuff you can't mine through?
Or, alternatively, we could just make an existing block have this property. I propose diamond blocks being invulnerable to picks, and only the shock of a high explosive detonation (creepers deflagrate, rather than detonate, perhaps) can shatter them.

What about a block crafted from 3 cobblestone, 3 logs, and 3 leather? Crafting this could give you a single block that is only breakable with explosions.
It requires you to have a cow farm and a logging industry, and it's really useful in multiplayer because it makes it possible to make strong structures if you have the time and dedication to do it. Making hte block somewhat expensive to produce would make it usable in larger teams where people need to work together to make a usable amount of this block.

EDIT: I meant TNT, not dynamite. Close enough.
Yes.
