1.8 made a change to the biome system, in which you actually have to hard-code each biome individually, rather than let the terrain code make it's own biomes. As a result, Mojang has given itself the burden of making more biomes than it needs to- however, they are often so simple to code, they have been completely overlooked.
Biomes like the Jungle Biome have a lot of content, yes, but what about biome variants?
I think that each biome should have a set of simple variants of itself to make the biomes feel less concrete and restricted.
I came up with a list (not a wishlist, mind you) of simple to code biome variants.
Pine Forest (Taiga w/o snow) Marsh (Swamp w/o trees) Shrubland (Mountain Blue Fields) Savanna (Dry, brown fields) Glacier (Fields, with "Grass Block", and "Dirt" replaced by "Ice" Temperate Rainforest (Like a normal Forest, but Jungle Green and more mountainous) Stone Forest (A Jungle Biome, but with the "Jungle Wood" block replaced with "Stone", and no leaves.) Swamp River (A sub-biome for Swamps to replace normal rivers, to stop the discoloration of the water) Volcanic Plain (A plains biome with "Grass Block" replaced with "Obsidian" and many lava lakes)
Along with a complete TEMPERATURE VARIATION LAYER in the terrain code to let each biome
decide it's own temperature randomly, as well as influence nearby biomes (e.g, you won't find Desert to Jungle to Tundra mishmashes anymore) reducing the amount of hard-coded temperatures needed.
The problem is that people complain on and on about biome placement for whatever reason. So regardless of simplicity and things, it's going to cause more stupid complaints about how deserts shouldn't be here, and this should be there, and whatever. Biomes are hardcoded now because people are whiny morons who don't know a thing about geography and how deserts do actually appear next to forests in the real world.

The problem with current biome placement is that you can sometimes end up with a snow biome next to a desert biome. While its not really a big deal it is a little weird.
So you've created EVEN MORE useless, rigid biomes. I think an adequate alternative would be to randomize the spawning statistics. So There might be very few trees and a lot of lava pools in a swamp, or the jungle biome would be very barren and only with a few trees.

But that makes no sense at all. A jungle is not barren, and a swamp does not contain a lot of lava pools, otherwise they would be called a volcanic biome and a plains/savannah biome respectively. The very definition of "biome" is "rigid", as you put it: a biome is a specific area with a specific climate, that means that jungles will be filled with trees (AKA being a jungle), swamps will be like swamps, plains like plains, et cetera, et cetera.

The problem with current biome placement is that you will always end up with a snow biome next to a desert biome. While its not really a big deal it is a little weird.
Fixed that for you.
To the OP:
I agree that new biomes are needed to make exploration fun with the new biome generator. Also, no biomes should ever be made of obsidian. I'd rather have volcanoes generate as structures, and be made of stone and gravel.
bi·ome [bahy-ohm]
noun Ecology .
a complex biotic community characterized by distinctive plant and animal species and maintained under the climatic conditions of the region, especially such a community that has developed to climax.
In other words by the very definition of biome, a jungle cannot be barren as a jungle is:
jun·gle [juhng-guhl]
noun
1. a wild land overgrown with dense vegetation, often nearly impenetrable, especially tropical vegetation or a tropical rain forest.
2. a tract of such land.
3. a wilderness of dense overgrowth; a piece of swampy, thickset forestland.
And a swamp cannot contain lava pools because a swamp is:
swamp [swomp]
noun
1. a tract of wet, spongy land, often having a growth of certain types of trees and other vegetation, but unfit for cultivation.

So basically you want to add most of the biomes from the ExtraBiomesXL mod. Hey, mojang already included some mods into the vanilla already, might as well this one.
(I'm serious they should put extrabiomesXL in vanilla)

No, actually, they can't.
