Hello there and welcome to my thread.
.
First off, sorry for using CODE as my tablet camt use the default posting method. Not my fault.
.
Anyway. Although I dont play minecraft since long, one major fail jumped into the spotlight. The utility of irin is decebt, sometimes a bit overdone regarding the ease to get your hands on it. But when we go a step further, we see gold with an extreme poor utility. And then I dont even have to mention Diamond, while even being tripple, in some cases even quadruple, times better.
.
See the flaw? Theres a gigantic leap between iron and diamond. In this suggestion, i will offer:
- 1 new ore
- 2 new ingots
- 2 new tiers of gear
- tweaks to the overall armour system
- tweaks to the endurance of some tiers
- tweak on diamond availability
.
The first is about the new ore: tatatatadah... PLATINUM. Platinum is a silver-ish ore that can be found below depth 30. As usual, men must melt it before crafting it. For platinum, you need at least an iron pick to mine it.
.
The second is about the ingots. As discussed above you can get platinum ingots. But, i also want to add STEEL. Steel wont be much better than iron, but has a better endurance. Steel ingots are obtained by using iron ingots AGAIN on a furnace.
.
Now the gear. Steel as said above will only be a wee bit better in performance but much better on endurance. Platinum will fill the gap between the performance of iron and diamont, but steel passes platinum on endurance. Gold will also meet its respective rarity, but still keeping its cosmetic purpose in mind. Described below. Leather arnour will still be the bottom line.
.
regarding the tiers of equipment, heres the order of performance and endurance of the tiers:
(Performance) wood < stone < iron < gold < steel < platinum < diamond.
(Endurance) wood < gold < stone < iron < platinum < steel < diamond.
.
this update will also bring a bad side with it, with the purpose to retain balance. This is that diamonds will have dropped chances and quantaties in Abandonned Mineshaft chests, and that diamond does only spawn in layer 10 to 1, in rare occasions. Why? Because diamond is supposed to be RARE, and now even a week old player can have his hands on his first capped stack of diamonds.
.
.
.
i hope you like my suggestion and respect the action taken to remain balance inthe game. Once im back home i can set up a supporters list for those who think this idea isnt that bad at all.
.
Cheers!

Regarding some typos in the opening paragraph:
irin = iron
Decebt = decent
Camt = cant ( can not)

You want to be a dragon? Well, then you need to have wings, a passion to hoard, and have a deadly breath.
Oh, and did I forgot to tell you dragons are extremely territorial? ROAWR >:)
...make emerald the top tier of tools, due to its rarity.
The ore is rare. Emeralds themselves are laughably easy to acquire enough of to make a few tools with. A whole set including armor wouldn't take much longer.
Especially since villages can spawn with pre-built wheat farms, and the most common villager type will buy wheat from you.
IMO, iron ingots are steel. The value of a steel ingot over an iron one is two sticks, or 2/3 of a plank block. Also, I want gold to stay realistic! I like how gold is crappy. It has high enchantability to compensate. Not very useful for fortune, unless you really like coal. Maybe efficiency could also let it mine more blocks, so it can be used on gold.
So, gold is useful with its high enchantability, but useless when not enchanted.
Game and kiti, emerald has one purpose in the game: currency. It wont be any more. Steel however doesnt have to be an alloy, as in reality its just iron, heated higher and longer.
.
Fire, i havent ever seen anyone who put interest in gold equipment. The tought of enchanment isnt bad, but chances are still chances and regarding the rarity of gold, it isnt worth it.
.
But guys, i havent heard anything about the biggest implementation yet: platinum ore and gear. Any thoughts?

Congratulations, the Iron tier effectively no longer exists. No one will ever use Iron, because the same material can be used to make Steel, and fuel (the only thing separating them) is, quite literally, infinitely abundant.
As to the inclusion of Platinum, I really have no opinion. It has the same level of hardness as steel, according to the Mohs scale, and I suppose that it's rare enough to be suitable. On the other hand, if one were to go by that, emeralds technically fall closer to the mid-range between iron and diamonds, and even real-world obsidian (which is technically weaker than Minecraft obsidian) is rated harder than platinum and steel. Both are already in the game. I'm personally not convinced that there is a need for any bridge to the "Iron-Diamond Gap", however. While it's true that diamond tools and armour last much longer than iron, it is important to remember that this is intended to be "time until tools must be replaced" and diamonds are more scarce than Iron...meaning they need more time to replace. Further, the actual mechanical benefit to diamond over iron is hardly as dramatic. In fact, in certain situations it is technically more cost effective to use gold tools, rather than diamond ones, as they can gather "softer" materials as fast or faster, and allow a less-vital tool to use durability over one that is not as readily replaced. In this way, gold actually does function, however slightly, as an intermediary tier.
