I hate when you're in survival servers, and all of the trees are half chopped down, and they are suspended midair via magic.
I had an idea that when you chop one block of wood, the whole tree, like sand, will turn into a falling entity and then be planted back on the ground. This occurence, of course, is withheld if there are two trees and both of their leaves are connected.
Just imagine chopping a big tree like this
The wood is a towering tower of gravel.
Your axe is a shovel
You keep chopping (shoveling) all the wood (gravel)
All keeps coming down one by one.
It's a nice way to prevent floating trees in your minecraft server.
Also, if there are leaves right at your head height, and you chop one more block of wood, the tree will crush you, much like an actual tree collapsing and crushing you, or gravel suffocating you.
This may ultimately change the feel of minecraft, but I just effing hate floating trees.
This is actually pretty interesting. But bringing it down as a solid mass seems a bit odd.
Maybe if just the logs exhibited the natural falling physics of sand and gravel. Then, for the leaves, instead of decaying they would fall down and pile up when left dry of nearby natural wood. Also, for this to work, big tree branches would need to generate with a layer of leaves under them for support, or we'd see natural trees collapsing on generation..
Wood only collapses when the wood under it is removed. Wood wouldn't behave completely like gravel or sand, that would be broken. I think branches would be just fine, as long as they are connected to the trunk.
Good intentions, but it would cause more problems. People have creations in wich wood logs are not supported, and changing it to were natural/grown trees are different from choped logs would cause problems. Good idea, but I don't see how it would work w/o causing more problems then good.

Easy. Have too different blocks, the wood we have now and physics effected wood. Have the physics wood drop regular wood. Make trees generate out of physics wood. Problem solved.

Minecraft makes me feel like I'm three. Playing with blocks and afraid of the dark.

Or they could be like leaves and only do their "thing" when they aren't placed by players.

It's hard criticizing ideas when one is tired, so you'd better appreciate it when I criticize yours.
