Anything that can turn a circuit on or off depending on lighting conditions.
I don't really care if it's an actual power source (solar panel) or something that only lets electricity through when it's active (photosensor or photoresistor).
Useful in a myriad of circumstances, such as...
...lights that only come on at night.
...a self-adjusting / self-fixing clocktower (because a normal clocktower will have the wrong time if it's not constantly loaded).
...transferring power from one point to another though air (in a dark area) using a dispenser with fire charges.
...light activated doors (either for keeping mobs out at night, or just as another way to lock a door).
.......solar powered hot tubs... jk, but you get the idea.
Actually, This is pretty smart.
I'd love for this to be in a future update, but Mojang Rarely gives us what we want.
Nice to see someone who actually thinks before they post their rubbish oppinions on the forums(Trolls,Haters,Etc.)

Okay I'm going to ask that the inevitable flame war about Mojang is quelled before it overtakes this thread. Thanks.
On topic: I cannot tell you how many times I needed this while redstoning. Traditional BUD based detectors were patched and testificate ones are incredibly unreliable. This suggestion needs a tad more detail, though. How would you craft solar panels? What would they look like?
I still think a light activated switch should output a signal as long as the light level on the detecting block.
For instance, the light detector is in a light level of 7, so it outputs a signal that only goes 7 blocks. Daylight is 15, so that would send a signal the full 15 blocks. It'd let us hardwire the switch to activate things at a certain light level without using a gui, and it would let the same block be used to activate multiple things at different light levels.
********, Mojang has done nothing but give you whiny pieces of **** what you want.
You wanted another realm? The End.
You wanted a Jungle? They gave you a Jungle.
You wanted NPC's? They gave you entire villages of them.
You wanted better AI? They gave you better AI.
You wanted enchantments? They gave you enchantments.
All Mojang does is add **** to the game without improving anything because people keep complaining about how minecraft is "Lacking something" because they already bummed the game out so hard their arses are hard as concrete.
Minecraft is not meant to played in one sitting for **** sake, you don't have to find diamond on with in the first time you play a world.
Okay, I wasn't trying to be negative. It came out wrong. I agree with you, Notch gave us most of the stuff we wanted, I was just trying to let this guy down Gently. I'm sorry that you had to freak out like that

BBCode Render failed due to reaching MaxNestingDepth(80) for Tag: spoiler
