In multiplayer ops can do a command (/op helmet or something like that) that would give you a special helmet to wear. The helmet can see past blocks (like a house that is burned down, you can see the blocks that are burned). And ops can do another command to roll back the damage if it was made by another player. I'm not sure if people 100% understand this but if you do and you see other people not getting it would be nice to explain it to them (I'm new to the forums)
It would also mean that servers can help with greifing without plugins.
Adding a new helmet and making blocks keep track of recent edits to themselves seems unnecessary when there are tons of plugins that do that same thing but better. It'd make more sense to just create a vanilla version of one of them.

There are billions of plugins for rollbacks. plugins.bukkit.org, bro.

If a player has been griefed, they will make sure to let you know. Then you roll it back.
