What I mean is, it should be as easy to make a multiplayer server as it is to make a single player world on PC. It should be more like the xbox version, where you can just hit a "Create server" button. Then it should let you select a seed, a name, game mode, etc. Then it should go "You have just made you're server! You're server IP is (Insert randomly generated IP here)." See? It would be MUCH easier.
Also, if you're still reading, it would be nice to have a quickplay feature. It would just send you to a random server, simple as that. The quickplay should also have an ability to let you select if you want to find a server with a certain game mode, no mods, etc.
As much as I support your first idea, I'm not sure how complicated it would be. It isn't as simple as "create new server with random IP." An IP address depends on your computer or network; it isn't randomly generated. I don't understand how port forwarding works, so I don't really have much to say about hosting servers outside your network, but I do know that 1.3 will let you create a local server just be creating a world, so that everyone using the same wifi network as you are can join, so your suggestion is in a way already done.
The second idea isn't bad; greifing could be prevented by white lists in the exact same way they are used today.
Also, I have a suggestion to improve your future suggestions. After seven minutes, you were wondering why no one was replying to your thread. After 17 minutes, you thought your thread was dead! Within half an hour, you were wondering why threads that have been around for days or months have been getting replies when this thread, which has only been around for half an hour, has no replies! Patience! Just because you post a suggestion, it doesn't mean everyone will suddenly be alerted about it, and will be attracted to here just to post something within minutes. Also, not everyone who sees this thread will have something to say. Most suggestions get replies only after an hour or even longer (at least, that's what happens to mine). People here tend to get really annoyed by constant bumping, plus bumping is against the rules.

The "randomly generated IP address" needs thinking. I'm pretty sure that would mean the Mojang servers would create an entirely new network JUST to host your server (I believe. I don't know to much about IP addresses or ports). If that is the case, that would not work at all.
The quickplay idea is great though. I'm thinking of it as people could put their servers on a list, and give details on which gamemode it is, modded or not, ect. The random selection system could put into account any latency problems from the server, how many people are on the server, and how far away the server is being hosted at (all things that could possibly effect lag on the player's end). Good idea.

So, what do you think of the idea?
