I was trying to make glass, when I ran out off sand. I checked a few of my chests and I found some sandstone, then got really annoyed because you can turn sand to sandstone but your unable to turn it back. So a thought crossed my mind, hammers. You could use them to smash sandstone to sand and stone/cobble stone to gravel, providing easy access to flint, (also it would be nice to smelt gravel back to cobble stone) you could make them out of the same materials as the other tools, and the crafting grid could look like this
seeing as your able to convert most other materials to one different form or another, I see no reason why this would not fit into the game. What do you think?
Meh. This is part of that "I'm lazy" thing. There are challenges which you are required to face, or else there is no value, and it isn't really a game. If you want to have unlimited resources just play creative mode.
I see what you mean, but it's not about unlimited resources, I just wish you could turn that practically useless sandstone back to sand, something that is entirely possible in real life, also it is Minecraft, so hammers kind of seem like they should have been there in the first place. Thank you for the criticism though.
All in all its not a bad idea, but it should have a few other central uses besides block conversion (which theoretically would be easier done via crafting).
A hammer is a great suggestion but I personally think that turning products of crafting back into their components(if they only use one item to craft) should be achieved by use of a utility block called a grinder, or something similar. This process is similar to a furnace in my opinion and that's why I think it should use a utility block.
Also hammers don't really turn sandstone into sand or stone into gravel very quickly(if they could then you'd have to drain hunger to use them).

Click them or they will click you
