Intro
Ok. So this may be a stretch for some to think possible but it’s an idea and pretty detailed one so please read the whole thing before starting your opinion about it.
So Minecraft and its community are growing faster than ever and no one can doubt that behind closed doors there is plenty of talk about a sequel to the ever expanding series. But let’s face unless if you’re Call of Duty you can’t sell the same game over without any upgrades and expect to make sales. Sure Mojang can add some items, new biomes and more crazy mobs but what big changes will come in the future for the fans of Minecraft.
If you’re a fan of Minecraft you have probably played its multiplayer and I must say the community has done some awesome things with it but let’s face it no matter how many mods or rules you put in place it will never be a sufficient substitute for an actual change by Monjang. Yes you probably already guessed what my idea is generally about but let’s get into it. We will call it “Custom Community Severs” or to save me some typing and you some reading CCS. To put it in simple terms it takes the multiplayer system we have now and adds host rules and player limitations. Now I know a lot of you are getting your CAPS LOCKs on and your comments ready but let me explain because its more than likely not what your mind jumps to. So where to start… Creating a Server
So here sounds like a good start. So this might not change your mind and you might be little confused after but try to stick with it. So creating a Minecraft Server is not the easiest thing to do and can be very aggravating. So for this to work Mojang will have to invest a little of its hard earned cash back into the system for some public server space. Now this may be a little costly but with over 6 million copies sold at about $25 peace let’s do the math 6,000,000*25 = a-metric-****-ton-o-cash. So my point is they can afford it. Now onto the idea. So players go and create a server and they will get to make some decisions. For starters some simple questions and then players can go into more advanced options so here’s the list if you don’t understand some of it that’s because we haven’t gotten to the other part yet.
CCS Options: Item Options (Description) Server type: open/invite/gated (open allows any player to join your server without an invite by searching for your sever, invite forces players to be invited to the server to play however if the player leaves they will need another invite to rejoin, gated is a permanent list of allowed or ungated players as well as ban player were ungated players can invite friends, this option is an option that could be changed at any time depending on Server Government) Gate Invite Type: friends/friends of friends/blocked (this option is only enable if gated server type is selected this controls who can be invited to the game while who can join freely for example if player-a and player-b are ungated players they can come and go at any time without invite while player-c would need an invite to join as long as the setting was to friends and player-c was a friend of player-a or b however if player-c was ban he could not be invited to the game) Server Government: host/private/open (try to follow me here this setting adjust who can ungate ban players and change other settings, with a host one person has complete power over the server, with private a host selects a small group to select setting, with open all ungated players can change settings with a vote) Voting: 1-3/1-2/2-3 (simple one here how many votes are needed to change a setting 1/3 ½ or 2/3) Spawning: local/dispersed/active (adjusts spawning location of new players or players that active area has been destroyed ex. mining ground out so player falls, local all players spawn in a random general area, dispersed players spawn far from each other allowing for personal space, active spawns players into the action)
Now there are more options if a player wishes to edit them from the default but we will get to that later. Now to fun stuff the reason you had to read about all this gated and ungated and hosted and private nonsense. World Domination
Ok so maybe not the best title but in a way it goes with the topic and makes this long article about **** you don’t care about a tad bit more entertaining. So if players can enter a server freely and make choices without the host and only a vote I would ****ing scared as hell about my house wouldn’t you! So that’s why when you spawn you are given a safe area. This is a dimensional area you can place anywhere you want except in someone else’s. So let’s say players start with a 10x10x5 area. Now a safe area doesn’t mean you’re completely safe. This just means that the blocks on your area are safe from others mining them or placing them and you are the only one that can. Now doors chest crafting tables etc. can be protected by locks we may get to that one later. So here’s the thing leveling is already in Minecraft however there isn’t a currency so we will call this magical currency Credits or CR for short. How do you get this magic stuff? From doing anything from mining blocks to placing them to killing mobs to making you’re first crafting table and going to the nether. As you obtain this currency you can use it to purchase larger safe areas as well as some other goodies like levels exclusive items and cloths as wells as early access to things like a nether portal. These CR could also be traded from player to player for items. Finally players could purchase mass gatherers or mass generators. Mass gathers essentially take an area of block and give the player all the items from that area as if they mind it while the generator does almost the opposite. It acts almost as a seed for filling caves back up with cobble stone, basic stone and valuables making sure resources never run dry however if a player is looking for something specific they could always buy one with their CR from another player or from a special in game buy menu. So I did say there would be another options list but my hands are getting tired and I’m sure your eyes are too. So let me finish by explaining one more thing and then a quick thank you and good bye. Levels and Locks
Like how I turned one thing into two! So like I said there are already levels in Minecraft well what if we specify these into groups with level 1-9 like attack, defense, crafting, blacksmithing, mining, farming, exploration, fine art(things like locks, clocks, maps, paintings, died wools, etc.),Redstone etc. this would allow players to specialize in a talent. Making them valuable to other players for example if player-a has 9 black smiting and player-b has 9 crafting player-a could make a diamond chest plate for player-b while player-b makes player-a gold block or an iron door. You get the idea right. Finally locks lock-smiting could be a new table in which players can craft locks and combine them with items to make locked items like chest or work benches. Players only with the correct key would be able to open them this would allow players to create extra keys so there friends could access chest and share them or loot them from a dead player. I have a lot more ideas but this was the main one if you want to see more read EXTRA but you don’t have to. Thanks for reading to here tell me what you think, ask questions, whatever you want. I know there are still problems and it’s a bit of a reach but I wanted to know your opinion so I could put more thought into it remember this is an unfinished version of the idea. Thank You So Much. Extra
If you are reading this I guess you’re liking it so far so let’s continue this maybe a little less organized then the one above but were like friends now so it’s cool right? So onto the leveling this is a simple break down of what a leveling system would look like. You would have one main rank that’s just your overall rank a combination or average of all your skill levels. So let’s take Attack and Mining for example for a leveling example. Attack
Lvl1-basic level no change
Lvl2-player can use weapons
Lvl3-player can use stone weapons
Lvl4-player can use bows
Lvl-5player can use iron weapons
Lvl6-player does %5 more damage to mobs and can carry a quiver allowing for easier arrow carrying
Lvl7-player can use gold weapons and special arrows
Lvl8-player can use diamond weapon
Lvl9-player does %10 more damage to mods %5 more damage to players and can attack %5 faster players also get %5 more push back on everything and bleed out on all mods Mining
Lvl1-basic level no change
Lvl2-player can use pick (player would only have to mine about one to two blocks to get to this lvl)
Lvl3-player can use stone pick
Lvl4-player can use iron pick
Lvl5-player’s picks last %10 longer
Lvl6-player can use gold pick
Lvl7-player can use diamond pick
Lvl8- players pick lasts %25 longer and player can mine %5 faster
Lvl9-player can recover one resource after a pick breaks (Ex. One cobble stone, one diamond) players picks last %30 longer player mines %10 faster
So obviously there would more picks more swords etc. but you get the idea a player could level very fast from levels 1-4 and then from 4-6 would be harder then from 6-8 very difficult then getting to 9 would be very hard and take a long time. So that the general idea there.
Players could also have backpacks to carry more goods quiver to carry more arrows and allow for faster bow reloads (with quiver you could double stack arrow to stacks of 128) or use a scuba tank for improved breath or even possible some sort of jet pack. The jet pack you could use oil to run which would be found in swamps use a bucket on it. The oil could be used to super heat furnace as well as for lanterns. Multicrafting items is another idea. For example when you place cobble stone around a blank slot you get a furnace but what about a stone chest that is more durable and unable to burn. You could pick which you intend to make after all this would open the door up to a lot of things. With an enchanting skill you could enchant crafting gloves that could be used to give you 9 slots crafting anywhere. More extreme weather were lighting can burn down houses much easier you could create lighting rods out of iron to avoid that. Red stone wire (1 redstone+1 gold) is super conductive and can carry a current much further than standard redstone (could also be done with iron for lower levels would use redstone skill). Mining copper that could be put with iron to make steel you could then use oil to super heat and harden the steel. So that’s about it for extras tell me what you think and thanks for tanking extra time.
Thank You Everyone
Your ideas are very well fleshed out, but they need to be in separate topics. Multiple unrelated ideas should have separate topics, so people can easily discuss the merits of each separate idea. In this case, feel free to break up your post into 2-4 topics, each containing only the ideas that relate to eachother.
And FutureNyanCat, please don't backseat moderate. If you see a problem, just report the post and move on.
