Lets say that one day you are happily smelting your ores, eating your cooked bacon, then suddenly a lightning storm appears and lightning strike your pet squid. Your squid suddenly starts crying terrifying scream and shoots fireballs at you.
I just thought that would hook you into reading the rest. Basically I am suggesting that lightning affects more mobs, as follows:
-Squids (however rare it may be) turn into Ghasts, perhaps?
-Slimes (however rare it may be [open bedrock mine/superflat]) turn into Magma Cubes.
-Maybe on an ultra rare occasion if an open-air mob spawner is struck by lightning it turn into a blaze spawner? I understand this would make it much easier to get blaze rods, but like I said, ultra rare.
I think that if a mob is mutated by lightning, such as the squid, it shouldn't change into another already-existing mob. It should be like the Charged Creeper where it's a modified version of itself. For example, a squid could turn hostile and spawn water to swim around your world and attack you. Now it wouldn't be a strong attack, but it would sure ruin your world! xD

Like how pigs turn into zombie pigmen?...
You know what, lightning is rare and it has already been shown to "mutate" mobs, so I support this, but when would a slime be struck by lightning other than on a superflat world?
Its a pretty good idea. The only time I could see a slime getting struck, is maybe use buildcraft and have a quarry running? Then you might have a chance.

Or a zombie if you're boring...
Honestly though, most mobs should probably just take damage.
