No. This is way too over powered. On multiplayer a griefer could use a piston to pick up the egg and then place it in someones house or base and then the dragon would destroy that house or base by flying around (it breaks all blocks except for end stone obsidian and bedrock) and it would murder the owner of the home or base once the owner arrived.
Maybe if there was an admin command like /hatchdragonegg
But that would be pointless because I think admins can already spawn dragons.
There is alot of useless block that are just good-looking.I think that the dragon egg should be in the Creative mode.
I think any block or entity that a player encounters in survival mode should be placeable in creative.
