My idea is to have certain blocks retextured depending on where they spawn or how they are built.
For example, all beaches have a yellow sand texture. what if there were white sand beaches? (I know that was mentioned in Future Nyan Cats topic, its just an example)
So there could be white sand beaches, regular sand beaches, and gravel beaches (which i think were removed)
They wouldn't serve much purpose other than looking nice.
Another sand color could be a little bit oranger for deserts, like this one:
Also, some mobs could be retextured depending on where they spawn.
Example: if a zombie spawns in a Jungle then it could have a vine over its shoulder and could be wearing ripped up shorts.
Or if a skeleton spawns in a Jungle it could have some moss growing on its bones.
Some people make builds where a regular furnace or workbench doesnt look right at all.
so what i was thinking is maybe if a furnace is made from netherbrick (justin_0lb suggested, all credit to him)
or sandstone it could match whatever the house looks like.
For the workbench, they could be painted using dyes or using the different colored planks.
If you have more examples share them down below.
Thanks.
I've posted my own ideas about stone doing something like this. Let me elaborate:
The reason I picked stone is so that you can tell where you are underground.
And the idea would be purely superficial.
Now, the first one isn't much related, I'm just mentioning it. But the second one is because there shouldn't be a ton of new blocks, items, mobs, and whatever just to have variety. For example, stone/sand can look different depending on biome (ocean sand can be more soggy, more greyish. Beaches generated in a forest biome can be white to reflect the fact that forests are rather cheerful and full of trees instead of a barren, orange-y dessert) but digging it up will give you generic sand/stone.
About the different workbenches, just no. Workbenches and furnaces are your most useful items. In the same way a Pokemon center in Pokemon all look the same despite being in drastically different places, workbenches and furnaces all look the same. You can find ways to make them work, they even work in the yellow sandstone of villages, and still fit in with a darkened Nether fortress, so you can make them work.
