I'm hesitant about making Fortune more powerful than it is, but on the other hand... why not? The game has already been broken in half long before the point where one gets Fortune enchants.
That would allow for infinite ore. They're incompatible for a reason.
People exaggerate how powerful Fortune is; only people who don't like mining will really benefit from it. After all, I've only mined over 170,000 iron ore in one world... what difference would it make if I got 2.2 times the iron from it (and sure, you CAN get up to 4 drops, and 30 diamonds from one vein, but the average is only 2.2 with a 40% chance of no effect, 20% each of 2-4 drops), considering that iron from chests alone more than meets my meager iron needs (in fact, even drops from zombies go quite far when you consider how much iron an anvil actually uses per use, on average only 1.24 ingots). The same is true for diamonds, seeing how many stacks of blocks I have as surplus after what I use for repairing; it only has a slight benefit (I actually consider Fortune to be a hindrance since 3,000 ores (including about 700 iron), a typical play session spent caving, is a lot of resources when multiplied by 2.2; back when I used it I went so far as to use a backpack mod to carry 4 double chests of resources) and none at all until you get to the enchanting stage and by then you'll have plenty of resources if you do any amount of mining because ores are so common; then again, Minecraft wasn't ever made to be "hard"; indeed, the abundance of ore is likely due to the main aspect of the game (building), which is something completely lost on many people.
You can also use Customized to make ores rarer if you really think they are too common - in fact, you can easily make it so that Fortune and Unbreaking are vital if you want to use anything better than stone without spending all of your time mining (Unbreaking actually has a bigger impact on the amount of materials used as it quadruples the lifetime of tools; armor has less benefit but you can fully repair a chestplate (or any other piece) with just 4 units, which already saves resources by itself).
I believe the mod tinkers construct has something like this where you can put auto smelt on a tool and then fortune, is that someonewhat what you are talking about? it would be nice for early game, but most people build iron farms and gold farms so i dont see that much of a use for it.
Full support, but why make a new gold sprite when you have gold nuggets?
Because nuggets are used in a completely different way. and make gold bars when crafted. Having its own item for gold ore will differentiate it from nuggets and the fact that you need to smelt it to get your bar.

Cast aside your festive doylaks: dragon stuff is about to happen.
Multiplayer is lonely once you understand how it actually works.
Have I not posted in this yet? I saw this ages ago and voted support in the poll. Awesome idea, should be vanilla. If they use these textures, I would personally love collecting butter rocks

It's a good idea, but iron is common enough already, and making gold affected by Fortune takes away from killing Zombie Pigmen and exploring Ocean Monuments (which have eight gold blocks [72 gold ingots] at the center of the structure, to mine them you have to kill the 3 Elder Guardians first).

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
So i halfway support this.

Wow, nice. Would you like me to put this mod on the front page? I'd be glad to do so.
Praise be to Spode.
