I don't see the problem here. I think the reason you can't fortune iron is because it's too easy to collect for such a good item. And also, gold because Mojang probably want to keep to a bit of realism, and make you smelt it into the ingot, so that way it sacrifices fortune, which isn't a huge problem.
No Support. Iron and Gold being smeltable gives a bit of variety when mining. If every ore acted exactly the same mining would be even more boring than it is currently. Iron and Gold cannot be affected by fortune, and as a result they are more valuable. Gold is already too common for what it does, and iron is only a rare resource if you plan on making lots of hopper contraptions. Even though the art is awesome, I would not like them to be added to minecraft.
I do Support this but: They need better icons, for 1; the gold ore looks like someone put butter on a rock (lol butter, sky will like) it shouldn't be budder. The iron ore could look a little better too.

Iron is used in too many things NOT to make it fortune-able; and, really, how often do you actually use the iron ore as a block? The answer is never. You don't, because you don't build caves. People who downvote this because it's "been in the game for a while" or because the change "doesn't effect them" probably should rethink their philosophies before returning to the Help section. Tradition and the current way not actively doing harm are two of the worst reasons to keep status quo, especially when better options are readily available.
Full Support. Right now the only thing I use fortune on is diamonds and emeralds.
I am wondering if the blocks will give xp when your mining and when your smelting, because it really should be one or the other, not both.
Other than letting us get more use out of fortune enchantments and making gold a bit easier to get as well as making iron easier to get. But other than that your right this idea has no use at all to anyone who doesn't use enchantments, gold, or iron.
The point of the suggestion is to make gold and iron consistent with everything else aesthetically. Diamonds, emeralds, Lapiz, etc, all drop items instead of blocks, and as someone working on a texture pack, it would be nice to make iron and gold match up.
There is no reason NOT to support this. It changes nothing for those who don't like it, and adds some customization ability to those that do. It is literally a win-win for both sides.
