I did a good search of this and came up with nothing relating to this.
Customizeable pressure plates
Stone and wood, mobs or anything, not much in the area of choise for pressure plates are there. Well how about one that's hidden, or maybe one only activated by players, and maybe some ones that match blocks better and are activated by anything. Better yet why not one that can do it all without adding a shipload of items to the game.
Crafting the plate
Considering how powerful this is its going to be expensive.
- = iron block, @ = redstone

You get 6 plates from this.
The plate its self
Upon right clicking the new plate with a new item called the plate editor*. A new window pops up for editing its properties the first being its disquise. There is a new imput slot that when you put a block in it (only blocks can be put in) it will match the texture of the blocks, so you could do any block/plate match rather than wood or stone.
Another feature of this would be its option to choose what activates it. Lets say you only wanted players to activate it, you can do that. Want only mobs, it can do that to. How about items? Yep it can even do that. It doesn't sto there either you can choose specific mobs only (great for sorting them) and you can even have multiple methods of activation at once. You also have the option for entity only activation. (arrows, activated tnt, etc)
*the plate editor is cheap to craft as its the opposite of a lever. (stick on bottom rather than top)
It has 128 uses considering how cheap it is.
Non-stackable item
I believe there was a thread involving this yesterday. Anyway, I don't like it. We have stone and wood, that's enough as far as deciding what activates it.

It is an interesting but depressing reality that most politicians are just regular people with power. And most people would be as bad as politicians if only they could get some power.

think about the options this brings though.
If your base is on the ground you could have pressure plates in and out without other mobs just walking.
Traps that only hostiles can set off instead of any random thing.
Many multiplayer uses are possible. Many more single player uses.

Arrival of Darkness, Darker yet recognizable textures.
I don't care. It's unnecessarily over-specific. Traps aren't always guaranteed to catch their intended prey. That's life.

I dislike the idea of a customizable block. It's better to keep things simple. Make an obsidian pressure plate that only detects players, a glass one that can hide well on any surface (sort of like a tripwire but a little more visible to balance not needing visible endpoints,) etc.

Its true that its nice to keep it simple but what about redstone is that easy to use by any chance. Same goes for this plate, its intended for the people who know how to use it.

Not easy. Simple. It has very simple mechanics. You can build complex things, but they all come from utilizing simple elements and logic.
Having to configure each pressure plate is annoying. It's simpler to have a variety of separate plates to make use of.
Well, I like the idea of being able to choose what sets off a pressure plate, but why the hell does it cost 8 iron blocks? Thats 72 ingots for 6 plates? Nope.
I don't see how often this would be used. No support.

Thinking about it now it is a little expensive even for how common iron is.
Maybe an iron block surrounded by redstone?

Curse PremiumI'm not saying it's a going to catch the prey, just think of it as tuning the plate to specific things.

Please turn left and enter the door to find this thread, which is far less redundant as it is the original.
And, any challenges posed by this can be circumnavigated with a plate editor.
Pssst. It's not Google you're looking for. It's the search bar at the top of the page.
I don't see how often this would be used. No support.

Curse PremiumWell I did use tye forum search bar and this suggestion is also not redundant as it is signficantly changed from the original.
