I think that maybe there should be more block ids for the mod api i know that there are mods that do this but I think that maybe they should put in a 4096 fix or something for when the mod api comes out so we can have more block ids. This might be difficult or take a long while i just think it would be nice to have more.
I'm not sure any mod packs, including Tekkit, go over the current limit. I don't know why you would want more id's unless you installed a ton of mods with blocks and somehow went over 1024 while still having Minecraft be playable and avoiding conflicts. I don't see it as a necessity, but, its possibly something to do in the future for when the mod API comes out and there is much less conflicts, allowing for more mods, which in return allows players to go higher with ID's.
The ID number was increased in the latest snapshots, I think. I really don't see how you're going to really run out of IDs though, most mods may add a little less than a hundred at the most. I think that a limit on the number of mods you can install based on block IDs is a rather good system, even if it's not intended to be there. Basically, you shouldn't be installing 20 different mods at the same time, it's rather silly.

No, its not a good system, its a terrible idea. How could you possibly think limiting mods and their users is a good idea? I have 66 mods installed and each one adds something unique, fun and none of they clash or overlap in any negative way.

66, that's amazing. I must have just mistook how many IDs are used in an average mod. But no, it only limits people from installing a completely ridiculous amount of mods. Installing what mods you want is one thing. Installing every mod there is for the sake of installing every mod there is is rather stupid. There are how many IDs with the latest snapshot...somewhere in the thousands? Yeah, a majority of the people I've seen install 2-4 mods at once, not an incredible 66 mods at once. A very large majority is not going to run out of IDs, and it's not going to limit the use of mods by that much.
Edit: Snapshot 12w07a added 4096 block IDs, according to the Version History page of the Wiki, because of the world conversion to Anvil format apparently, sorry, I thought it was more recent. No, you are not going to run out of IDs unless you're installing ridiculous amounts of mods. Sorry to burst your bubble. http://www.minecraft...t_1.2_Snapshots

Sadly, only the map save format supports 4096 Ids, Minecraft itself can still only use 256 Ids. Your right that most players wont run out of block Ids just yet, but Minecraft gets bigger with every update and its mods get bigger almost every week, as do the mod makers ambitions. I'm not sure how many block Ids are in the latest snapshot, but according to Robinton (who made the first 4096 fix) Mojang were going to finish the 4096 extension for 1.3. Your right about installing every mod just for the sake of it though. That is quite a silly thing to do.

I'm not sure this is completely relevant, but its not exactly Mojang's job to keep up with modders ambitions while they make the content of the game, That's a very common look on things, but not exactly the right look. Though in your support, you have a valid argument: Players who want mods want more Id's, and perhaps that will be looked into it, and it already seems that they are slowly.

In short, I support this.
