this is a simple idea that should have ben implemented a while ago DAGGERS these would be easy to make 1 stick and either wood stone iron or diamond to make a dagger of course the wodd etc. wold go above the stick but mabye the dagger would do a little less damage than a sword but ive ben in this case before i found 1 diamond and didint want a shovel and so i end up saving it forever but it could be convinient if you need a weapon and you dont have enough for a sword so you just make a dagger so please consideradding daggers
Why would I want a diamond dagger that hurts 2 hearts, when i can get a iorn sword that hurts 3 hearts...and save the diamond till I can get a sword that hurts 5 hearts? Do you see where I'm going with this?
Plus as a dagger a closer range would almost certainly need to be implemented making it all the more dangerous to attack enemies...
interesting idea, but not one that I think is all that usful in the long run.
im talking about emergencys like if your sword breaks you dont have wood or a crafting table on you all you have to make a sword so quick inventory dagger kill

I would like to see throwing knives though...
throwning knives would be a good idea but im not saying dramatically decreased damage like 1 heart damage decreace and it has a smaller reach than a sword witch would be why its for convinience

"Should have"..? Let's not slip into the overconfident "Mojang needs to add this" phase, because it will embarrass you. Perhaps this idea isn't implemented because it doesn't need to be?

Wow. Please try to type a bit better in the future. A little punctuation and proper spelling makes a big difference, and it won't stomp on the integrity of your suggestion.

I tried as hard as I could to make an understanding from this rushed, half-brained typing. We just don't need daggers, and the "I only have one diamond" argument isn't going to strengthen that. If you have 1 diamond, either make a diamond shovel or just hold on to it until you find more. Having to use two things to make a sword isn't going to kill you.
By the way, if you used a little something called "searching", you'd find that this forum has drowned in "we need daggers" threads.
so you just make a dagger so please consideradding daggers
No.

Hey, you there. Yes, you! Are you thinking about posting a suggestion on the forums anytime soon? If so, please read this before doing so.
Please hear me out:
The dagger idea started here is a good start but, in my honest opinion it could have some other game-play ideas to make it better. For example: have you wanted to use poison but not have to waste glass and gunpowder? Then I suggest that daggers be implemented to create a link between non-splash poisons and a new weapon. The difference would be that:
1. The dagger would be faster.
2. It would have less damage (enough so it's balanced).
3. The damage would scale up along side the sword (E.g. swords TYPICALLY increase damage by one-half a heart every increase of material quality)
4. The dagger could be coated in the poison (or other potions later for different effects)
5. This poisoned dagger would offer an easy way to kill Endermen because when they teleport away, they would still be poisoned.
6. The dagger would only be a last resort weapon, or good enough stand alone only with poison added.
Again this is just an idea I thought of a while ago with my friend. I searched for a topic with daggers in it, and I wanted to see if anyone else thought this might help out with the annoying poison issue. In my OPINION, the non-splash poison is pretty useless so.... Just an idea. Any comments or good additions would make me happy.
Thanks. =)

Edit: Sorry if I angered anyone, I just wanted to see if this would make the dagger idea bearable. =/

Simply adding a dagger to the game isn't enough, that's why theres the fuss. Being able to add venom to them would be great (and makes more sense than just swords). I would also like to see sneak attacks that only work with a dagger (of course then proper sneaking would have to be introduced and that might be a lot of work).

Is this... All one sentence...?
My eyes...
Daggers are a no-no, unless Notch/Jeb/whoever the **** is in charge these days decides to revamp the combat system. Otherwise, they're just redundant.
