Just like how Gold Bars can break apart into nuggets and vice-verca, we should be able to break Iron Bars into Iron Pellets that can be used as a cheap, plentiful ammunition for Sling Shots, which have the firing rate of the old bow, and a weaker attack power than the new bow. They would stack up to 64.
Caltrops
Another use for pellets could be for Caltrops, which have a redstone hitbox and a touch effect of a cactus that has limited uses and a slowing effect similar to Soul Sand when a mob/player is standing on it. The recipe would be
= Iron Pellet
Their relationship with water would be identical to redstone, and if the block below them are destroyed, you only get a random amount of iron pellets back (2-3). Once placed, they cannot be picked back up.
It would have a similar durability to the bow, cannot be enchanted, does the same damage and has the same speed of the old-school bow, and fires Iron Pellets.
You should be able to pick up the caltrops, and btw, most people probably dont even know what caltrops are unless they're into medieval history, so that might be a no-go for Jeb's todo list. As for the slingshot, I think the fire rate should be a TAD slower. The old bows fired really fast, and you can only pull back a string so quickly.
Hmm....
I KNOW!
How about a sling shot that can fire lots of things, like snowballs, slimeballs, ender pearls, fire charges. Something like that.
How would it decide which one to fire though? It should only have one type of ammo and I don't think it should be iron pellets, too expensive for a weapon that it supposed to be cheaper than a bow. (or should be).
Maybe make it so you can break cobblestone into pebbles or something? Would make a slingshot a cheap, but less effective, ranged weapon for when you run out of arrows.
Also, just make the recipe 4 sticks in a Y and 1 string. S
