if we make a map underground can it map the the parts underground we go to instead of showing us on the surface because it would make it easier to find our way back to the shelter if we need to get out instead of dying and respawning back at the house or mining our way out with a pickaxe thats about to break. i think this would hep a lot since i tend to get lost underground. please integrate into the game.
That's why its important to A. keep track of where you are in the cave with signs, torches, and landmarks and B. bring extra supplies to make more pickaxes so that you can mine your way out.
You realize how many layers there could be underground? Making a map to show it all would be impossible. The Overworld map merely shows a bird's eye view of the world, and underground, all you'd see is stone, so it'd be challening to even tell where you are. Based off of what L0gicaltightrope posted, you need to be prepared. That's kind of the point of exploration.
Carry one full stack of just plain wood with you. Worse comes to worse you can make stone pickaxes to dig yourself out. Purple is right. I imagine this map would create lag for itself and you would have to decide how many layers would be shown on the map at once. I can't think of a way that this would work well. I know there is a few mods that creates maps that include underground levels but those have the same problem. It shows all of the underground and isn't very helpful with getting out of being stuck anyway.
