I was thinking about something that could enable us to get out of a near death situation on MineCraft, so I thought of something about the flight or fight response(known as adrenaline rush). what it should do is make you be able to FIGHT off mobs by increasing the rate of critical hits or be able to FLIGHT which is an increase in speed as you sprint away(also I know about the sprint already put in, but this one can increase the speed so than you can hopefully get away from the range of arrows from skeletons). however, this is all temporary the Fight or Flight Response should only be a few seconds and will rarely happen maybe like 3/10 that this will happen and will take place only with low health.
As I read your suggestion I imagined having three hearts left surrounded by skeletons, and the screen going all Matrix and a particle affect around the player. Good idea. :3
Sorry to say but "MineCraft" NOT "Reality, With Correct Biology And Endocrine System" It just dose not fit.
What next? Toilets? Needing to sleep rather than pulling several allnighters otherwise you will start to hallucinate?
Needing to drink water?
My point is. The game dose not need to perfectly match reality.

This isn't referring to reality. It is suggesting a mechanic in minecraft that is really useful and not another hunger bar. I SUPPORT!

I haven't even bought MineCraft, I don't have the money...
This could work. Here's how I suggest it is done.
If the player is injured and he has under 4 hearts remaining he will get an 'adrenaline rush'. This is simulated by the player receiving the Speed I, Strength I and, possibly, Resistance I potion effects for a short time. 10 seconds perhaps.
When he gets the adrenaline rush a cooldown will also start, lasting perhaps 1 minute. The player will not be able to get another adrenaline rush until this cooldown is over.
The player will not receive an adrenaline rush from environmental damage, eg., drowning, falling, fire, etc.
I know when I'm spelunking and suddenly an arrow rapidly introduces itself to my face (hello friend!) I jerk the mouse freaking EVERYWHERE, and then instantly run away.
So, in a weird way, this is already present in Minecraft. It's just not hard coded into the game and allows for the player to actively choose flight or fight.
EDIT:
Also, I'm seeing some suggestions that would require (perhaps not intentionally, but none the less) that the effect be active every time there is an encounter.
But the flight or fight response is (in real life anyway) limited to surprise situations. You open a door, someone jumps out at you. Do you run? Or Kick em dead? That's FF.
This is also why I think the player's IRL FF response is already enough for Minecraft (see my above example with the arrow in the cave).
It is an interesting but depressing reality that most politicians are just regular people with power. And most people would be as bad as politicians if only they could get some power.

You know, this isn't too bad. There should be a separate chance for each, though, which is determined by what you are doing.
If you aren't moving much and you are primarily attacking, you should get the fight response (aka free Strength I for a little)
If you are moving a lot and you aren't attacking much, you should get the flight response (aka free Speed 1 for a little)
