Currently, Minecraft's biomes are quite limited. Forest, swamp, jungle, mountains, desert, taiga etc. also, the grass colour is very bad. It is all flat! I suggest that the old grass colour based on temperature system be in place and also a new, grass colour based on water system. If grass is close to water, it will show up lighter and bright than the default coloring.
Secondly, the lack of unique biomes is quite sad. Why do we need, mushroom island shore when you could just code the edges of mushroom bloomed to be flat?
I propose the removal and addition of a few biomes:
REMOVABLE
These biomes are unnecessary and are a pain. Does not include technical biomes.
Ocean Biomes
Why do we need ocean biomes? Before 1.7, the ocean wasn't represented by a biome. It was an extension of the surrounding biomes. Keep it that way by removing the ocean biome.
Mountain Biomes
Do we really need so many mountains dotting our landscape? Why not just make the mountains first then overlay biomes on top. This way we get nice biome diversity.
River
What do rivers do? Cut through biomes. This can be accomplishe by adding code to existing biomes so that it can randomly draw a river.
ADDITION
Before 1.8, we did have many beautiful biomes. I've added more and took out some unneeded ones.
Rainforest Biomes
This was my favorite biome by far. It had lush, green canopies and vibrant grass covered with ferns, mushrooms and flowers. Just add sugar cane dotting the pools, naturally spawning melons and pumpkins and some diverse wildlife, this could be the best biome ever. Oh, don't forget vines and sandy beaches with palm trees.
Savannah Biomes
Have you seen the new 'bushes' in the jungle biome? Just add these bushes to a grass covered deserty biome with patches of sand, add a savannah tree and some enlarged ocelots and you have yourself a fancy new biome.
Seasonal Forest Biomes
These biomes have (there are two or three versions) oak trees and a moderate amount of birch trees. Sugar cane is common and also waterfalls. Various tints of green brighten the trees up along with many windflowers, ferns and tall grasses. This biome is home to the frog.
Temperate Forest Biomes
Imagine a tundra biome with tall, majestic pines and spruces reaching towards the sun. Now imagine it without snow and light, pale grass with crystal clear rivers. Imagine it with a clear sky and birds and fish. This is the temperate forest. It is a rare biome, has red roses and gravel river beaches.
Tropical Rainforest Biome
The tropics is a lush biome found between the jungle and rainforest biomes. Walk along wide, sandy beaches that have graceful, curving palms. Enter the thick jungle with its tree ferns, jungle trees, cenotes and frisky ocelots. The clear ocean hold treasures too with a mass display of beautiful corals and fish.
Well, this is some of the biomes which would be nice in Minecraft but possibly as a mod as well.
Nah, not really. I started in 1.8. I just think mountains and oceans as separate biomes are a bit... unrealistic. Also, most of the new biomes are very different from the old ones even though they have the same names.
Mountains I agree should be able to generate in any biome
Technically speaking, they do. Albeit smaller, as a structure called "hills". Honestly, the only reason people suggest making hills like in early beta is because of nostalgia, there is no real reason otherwise, and nostalgia is a terrible reason to suggest something. Moutain biomes provide access to cooler-looking hill-side bases that can be hidden, instead of the doors jutting out of a random pile of dirt in the middle of a forest. Mountain biomes are also the only place you can get emerald.
Rivers aren't actually a biome, it's a structure, just so people know. Oceans used to be structures, and I don't think making them structures again really does the game any significant improvement, especially since people (including me, I'm just more picky about what I want) want more content in oceans.
All of your additions have been suggested in immensely higher detail, many even including pictures. Please search and/or at least describe more. If multiple people can write average-sized paragraphs about the same biomes you're describing in a sentence or two, you're not going into much detail.

What do you mean, code the edges of mushroom bloomed to be flat? And you also mentioned that the grass color is flat? I'm not trying to be a grammar nazi, but I really can't understand that. Anyways, I think oceans should stay as they are, but biomes should really sometimes have hills in them. And then make the mountain biome even more mountainy.

I haven't even bought MineCraft, I don't have the money...
Oh sorry. Just the silly spell check function. Anyway, I usually am quite careful with grammar but that problem must of escaped me.

What do you mean by 'code the edges of mushroom bloomed to be flat'?
It is also bad practice to start a sentence with 'and' due to it being a conjunction and thus not being able to start a sentence.
Back onto topic, I meant mushroom biomes.
When I said the grass colour was flat, I was absolutely right. After all, when in the middle of a biome, the grass shading overlay is the same as what it is one meter away.
Hills. The main reason I do nt think mountains shouldn't be a separate biome is well, it is not realistic. It would add much more diversity and reward players by having magnificent cliffs, overhangs and peaks that are unique and different. Some with thick jungles whilst others with cactus studded sand dunes. Currently: dull, greenish blue grass. Tall steep mountains. No use. Seriously, who likes the colour of the mountain biome? I do think mountains perhaps could be still incorporated however having a random biome colour and biome characteristics.
Ocean biomes:
True, ocean biomes are unique but in the current state it is in, it is almost useless. Why do we want endless water filled depressions with nothing new and exciting about them?
Emeralds and hidden houses, Granted, I do hate the mountain biome color and everything about mountains.

Did something happen to you in your childhood to give you this unreasonable fear of rutabaga?
Well, I doubt emeralds will be biome specific in the upcoming release.
Hidden houses? Well I'd this is implemented you could do that in almost every biome!
Mushroom Islands eh? Hmm... That's a good one. That is one use but the actually ocean doesn't really have a use.

Curse PremiumIn that case, you would love to see this thread, which makes them possible.
