I would like to suggest that boats don't break on certain blocks, allowing you to dock without having to make another boat every time you accidentally hit something. I find it very frustrating, and I'm sure some or even most of you do to, when a boat breaks. Jumping in the water and retrieving the remains of it are a hassle depending on how deep the water is, and carrying more than one takes up extra inventory space.
Realistically boats land/dock on all the things I mentioned. I hope to find support and more suggestions to add on to this. Such as fences with string to tie up the boats, even though its not really needed.
IN fact, soul sand is often used for boat docking, for just this reason.
I'd also like some way to moor boats so they don't go wandering off when squids nose into them. But there are ways to build boat launches and all kinds of cool stuff like that, even if they are a bit convoluted sometimes.

I like the concept, but the opening post doesn't give any suggestions other than this should be a possibility. I'd suggest trying to figure out ways to implement it and set it up, how it would work and how it would fit in with the minecraft world. If you can tidy it up and make it look like a fully functioning idea, i'd be glad to support this.
Many people believe that Mojang intends to bring back the sponge block and giving it "soft" properties would be one of the utilities it would possess to make it useful and unique. This applies to not just dock bumpers to protect your boats, but dry docks could raise and lower sponges using pistons to beach the boat temporarily to stop it from floating around. It could have other uses too such as sound dampening (already suggested, but no definitive mechanics) and reducing fall damage from small heights. I suggest doing a search on sponges, find a popular one, and try to get the suggestion added there. Or make your own with enough detail and new mechanics to make it different from existing ones.

Both of your suggestions could be solved by a kind of mooring that would pull a boat to wherever it is connected. Thus a new creation would be adding a fishing pole to a boat or creating a new kind of object (Like an anchor or a grappling hook) that would be connected with the boat. You would then throw your hook/anchor where it attach to another block and proceed to pull your boat towards that source. The pulling would not be enough to pull it up out of the water or underneath the water.
I don't know, I'd kind of miss pretending like my boat's controls have gone haywire and I crash into the shore.
That's why only some blocks would have this property. I assume that regular sand would not.
What about using the Tripwire hook and string for mooring? Put a block near the edge of water, attach a string to it, and if a boat that isn't being controlled by the player collides with the string it automatically stays put there? It's simple, intuitive, and the tripwire hook won't activate any redstone unless there is another hook on the other side, making it next to impossible to grief with using concealed TNT.

I think that you should be able to make an anchor.
An anchor would be made with four iron, with 2 in middle column and 2 in middle row (like sand in tnt) and 2 string on top corners.
This would stop a boat from moving around. To throw it, there would be a small chargeup, then it would go out to the first block it finds underwater

That's a very good idea.
