Most Furnature suggestion topics I've seen have been talking about new blocks for chairs and tables, but I had a better idea. Why not simply make the chairs and tables we make regularly usable?
The idea is simple, if a staircase is made and has two signs attached to it the player is able to sit on it. To sit you would right click. Same for getting up.
If you drop something on a table it will put the item on the top and it will not disappear.
That's all I've got for now, if you have any ideas just post below!
I'm not sure how it would be implemented, and I think it would look better if the furniture was actually it's own separate item, but it's not a bad idea.

It's hard criticizing ideas when one is tired, so you'd better appreciate it when I criticize yours.
What about people that make tables out of pistons? Or those that make couches, or large thrones? Or desks out of upside down stairs and slabs?
Minecraft furniture can be made in more than one way. If we didn't add this functionality to all of the ways, people would complain that they have to use stairs with signs on them rather than their prefered way, and if we did, people would complain that minecraft keeps making furniture ot of things they don't want to be furniture.
It's a nice idea, but it would either be too restictive or it wouldn't work well.

If we made pistons function as tables it would interfere with thier regular function. Simply only implement ones that wouldn't interfere with gameplay otherwise.

That wouldn't work with all interfaces, I'm afraid. I honestly think it would better just to have individual furniture blocks. Sorry.

It's an innovative idea, but I thing I agree with the consensus. It limits the design of furniture far too much if all chairs and tables must have exactly this configuration of fenceposts and pressure plates, or stairs and signs.
I remain convinced that the better solution is a single new block for tabletops, and something like a wool slab for seating.

Maybe sitting will let you "nap", passing a quarter of the day. You can only nap once a day. Napping will refill your hunger bar by 3 full points and your health by 2 full hearts.

I haven't even bought MineCraft, I don't have the money...

Maybe. I think there's value in just being able to sit, particularly in multiplayer where it will support a lot of roleplay-like interaction. Sitting at a table, discussing the plans for construction of a new bridge, that sort of thing.
I like the idea of the nap, but I don't think it should affect hunger at all. And without that, there's no reason to limit it to once a day.

Edit: grammar corrections.
But it was suggested before
You don't know how to make a table? It's a fence post with a pressure plate on top.
I do not remember this being posted before, if it was, link please. :3
Bingo! What do you think about it btw?

*who uses the pressure plates on fenceposts anyway?
So you can still make chairs and couches the way you want.
Oooh. I like this! Gets right to the core of the problem, at least for seating blocks. Well done!
