So I think that it would be cool to have the crossbow in the vanilla version. I know it is in mods, but it would be cool to hunt with a crossbow.
It should do a little more damage to mobs, except they should have to use crossbow bolts, which require the same thing as an arrow, except instead of flint they would use an iron ingot. The crossbows should be able to be pre-loaded, but take a little longer to reload, as further compensation for the damage and awesomeness.
It should not replace the bow, and should instead serve as an alternative for the late game (you need alot of iron) The crafting should be sticks in the shape of a crossbow with one diamond in the center.
So, what do you guys think? I personally always thought that crossbows are awesome, so it would be cool to see them in my favorite game!
EDIT: The reload time should be twice the draw of the bow, and the quick fire ability (fire before fully drawn) should not be available. It should, in addition to having a tiny bit more damage, have a bit more range.
It's definitely a decent idea, and I know a common complaint in the game is the lack of weapon variety. It's smart to include iron ingots in the bolt recipe - it'd be a big sacrifice for each bolt but that's what makes it more appealing for endgame material (maybe 2 bolts for each recipe so it's not too punishing??). That aside, this should probably be in the suggestions forum, not here, but good idea regardless!
Interesting Suggestion you have here. If only there was some sort of Suggestions forum to put it in.

"Strong Pokémon. Weak Pokémon. That is only the selfish perception of people. Truly skilled Trainers should try to win with the Pokémon they love best."
A skilled longbow shooter can launch six to seven (I think, maybe more) arrows before a skilled crossbow shooter can shoot one. I like history, and that was old medieval times stuff. Compensation would have to be more than a little longer. Maybe two times as long as it takes to draw back the bow and fire.
There's just not enough people in the suggestions forum. I would be waiting for ages just to get one response, and I wanted to see peoples general feeling toward the idea of crossbows and bolts. This is also linked fairly well to survival. I was just really eager to see what the people who play survival a lot had to say about this.

If it was two times as long and the ability to quick shoot was removed, I think that compensates for a little more damage and range. Not to mention the diamond in the recipe and the iron bolts.
