Paint Buckets
Paint Buckets would be a great way to add color to a house. The way you would make them is get a bucket of water and put it on the crafting table next to some sort of dye and the product would be a bucket of paint. The player would be able to color wooden planks, bricks, and cobblestone(maybe) by right clicking the material with the bucket in hand. It would would run out of paint as shown by the bar located under it's icon (similar to how weapons and tools wear out). It would last rather long due to the rarity of cocoa beans, about as longs a diamond pickaxe.
Hmm, well I'm pretty sure this has been suggested before...
Anyways, because I absolutely love the mod that's kinda like this, I would love to have this in vanilla.
I guess it stems from being an artist but I'm always open for more simple decoration ideas.
I agree with Quincannon about it lasting as long as a stone pick.
I would support this if some changes were made and more detail added.
I have always liked this idea and have hoped it would be added but don't feel bad when a moderator closes this topic because it has been posted many times before.
Also cocoa beans drop like apples in the jungle in the new update so they will not be not rare.
I just had a crazy idea about how to implement this, in a way that would address a completely unrelated wish I've had for a long time: thin interior walls.
Okay, here's how it works, and how it relates to paint. Suppose that applying paint to a surface simply places a very thin vine-like block against the surface. It would differ from vines in that it'd be opaque, and it would have a collision box, so you couldn't walk through it. Also, once it was placed, it wouldn't need the block behind it to remain in place.
So you could REMOVE the wall behind it, and leave the paint layer in place as a very thin interior wall, a barrier between the spaces on either side. It would be a way to create room dividers without using up a whole meter of thickness. Obviously you couldn't put anything in the same block as the wall, but you'd at least have room to walk in that block to get to your bed.
This would ENORMOUSLY expand the options for interior design, to say nothing of colour!

Vertical slabs could do that...
