Sorry if this was already planned or suggested, I didn't look around very much.
It's just a small idea, from what I've heard so far villagers (or testificates) will only trade emeralds but I was just thinking, what if you don't have quite enough resources to trade for that/those emeralds? That's where my idea comes in; if you give a fraction of the amount that the villager is asking for, they could give you partial emeralds, like shards or fragments or something and those pieces (once enough are collected) could be crafted into a full emerald.
For example, let's say that a villager is asking for 10 raw chicken for one emerald but you only have five. You can trade that five chicken with the villager and they'll give you half an emerald.

Get off your butt and go get more?
Sorry but I don't like this idea of 'half an emerald' it's a little bit much for a trading system in a game like Minecraft.
No support from me. Disclaimer: Remember, these are my opinions. I am not stating them as facts.

Kingdoms rise and fall. Just don't burn the paintings in the Louvre, that's all.
That's good idea, but how would the player manufacture emerald shards? Would shards be able to be combined into a single emerald again?
Well, I suppose the only way to get the shards would be from trading an insuffcient amount or maybe instead of dropping full emeralds mining the emerald ore will only give shards. And yes they could be combined into a full/single emerald that's part of the idea

I agree.
The last thing we need to do is make the game any easier, and adding unnecessary "Emerald shards" would not help further develop the trading system in any way.

Replace "kingly" in the image with "2323" and the crown with a 23. That is my opinion of this thread.

No, there has never, ever been a sandbox game with a story or ending... except Grand Theft Auto... and Saints Row... and Red Dead Redemption... and Crack Down... and Assassins Creed...
No support.
The reason is,
Villager: Hey 10 chicken for 1 emerald?
Player: I only got 5....
Villager: OK! Ill just take my saw here and split it in half!!!!
Player: .....

...Are you suggesting players actually NOT be spoonfed every little thing to make the game as pathetically easy as possible?
BLASPHEMY!
If you couldn't tell, you get no support from me either.
