I have been playing minecraft on and off since the start of beta and ever since the 1.6 update I have felt that the game was pushing you to get up and explore, not just stay around your base. Seeds? go explore to find the plains. Potions? find a nether fort. Melon seeds? find an abandoned mineshaft. Don't get me wrong, I'm fine with exploring and I think it makes a nice addition to the game but it's starting to interfere with the "old" gameplay of minecraft. Before the 1.8 update the game was more about and collecting resources and building stuff. You never had to venture out too far from your base for materials, kind of like RTS games, in the sense that most all of the materials to harvest are near your base and you need to collect a lot of it. After the 1.8 update it feels more like you need to find materials and venture far out from your base to get them. It also feels like you find things more to survive instead of build.(Again I am fine with exploring and post-1.8 stuff, if I wanted go back to 1.7 i would get MC nostalgia and do that instead of whining about it on the forums.) While both elements of the game are good they don't seem as good together, they need to decide whether to make the game more skyrim/fallout-y or keep it more sandbox-y. The game is great it's just in an akward transition phase right now. I also believe that the game needs to be more user-friendly. Instead of try to make the gameplay better they should work on things like mod-support and easier server hosting. The "merge SPP and SMP thing" could be a step in the right direction but the current /publish thing isnt too much easier than setting up a server considering you still need to connect with hamachi and download TMI if your world is survival. They should make it so that you next to the join server button there would be a host button, it would ask to you to pick one of you worlds, and it will run it as a server, much like terraria except you could have people connect through a "buddy list". The last thing that i'm going to mention is mod support, Mod support has been promised to us (here) and they even had the whole legal aspect planned out, the only thing left was to deliver. This would require a mass amount of effort on jebs part but it when they are already taking ideas from mods (hatches, ender chest, in a way pyramids and jungle forts, probaly some others I forgot.) they should at least make it easier to mod the game. How would you feel if you worked hard making a mod and you were getting money from ad.fly and donations, however every other comment was someone having trouble installing it. Then mojang actually uses the mod in that game, well you have stopped getting money from it, if you update people get mad at you for making a pointless mod, and you have to make a brand new mod from scratch? What mojang is doing is basically plagiarizer. Its like if you typed up a paper and microsoft took it from you because you used MS word. They should have an interface similar to the curse client, where you just select mods and it will install them for you. I don't think it would be TOO much effort on mojang's part considering notch got 3 MILLION dollars lat year. It would be great for people that no nothing about technology, not everyone knows how to unzip a folder or how in get to the appdata folder. This game would be MUCH better and easier to start out in if they made the game more user friendly.

duct tape is like the force, it has a light side, a dark side, and it binds the world together
You're just pissed because the game is steering away from the direction you preferred, the problem is that Mojang has been steadily pushing the game to the concept they originally planned from day one.
If you want people to read what you write, then "give a f*ck."
If you don't, then type it in notepad and save it in your Wonderful Ideas folder.
I would like to listen to what people have to say, I just don't want people posting "Oh you mispelled this" or "You forgot to capitalize a proper noun"

Tough luck.
I never said I didn't like how they were changing the concept of the game, I think that Jeb needs to decide whether he want's it to be more adventur-y or more sandbox-y, right now the game seems like it's trying to be 2 things at once. Again, if I hated the new updates I would get MC nostalgia, not whinee about it on the forums.

Let me guess. You think C++ should only be object-oriented, procedural, or functional, not all of them? Minecraft is not supposed to be an adventure game. It's not supposed to be Sandbox. It's not supposed to be survival. It's its own genre, which is partly a combination of others, sort of like multiparadigm programming languages that form their own full paradigm out of those paradigms.

Let’s play good guys against bad guys… Yes. Let’s play that. Are you ready? You’re the bad guy. And when you’re bad, you just run. That’s fine right? Well… Shall we play?
I don't see how Minecraft could possibly, ever, be compared to Skyrim or the Fallout series. The survival element in Minecraft is extremely laid back, all you need is a wheat farm. You don't have to find melon seeds. You don't have to do anything in Minecraft. You can sit in your little house all day if you want.
Contrary to popular belief, the term "sandbox" isn't a video game genre. Sandbox is synonymous to non-linear or open world. It's used to describe a game that doesn't force you down one path. Eve Online is a sandbox game, but we still call it an MMO. Skyrim and Minecraft are both sandbox games. That's really where your comparison ends.
Having to move out and explore to obtain unique benefits is a common development technique. It's used to promote movement across the game world (and isn't something that should be present in balanced RTS games, expansion should always be rewarded). You don't have to make potions, but you gain a slight edge if you do. When you have everything in the world that you could have, you have reached the endgame. Endgames are also quite common, and it usually says something about the longevity of a game's lifespan.
The Mod API is on its way, but you need to be patient. If you have ever done programming, then you understand how tedious and slow it can be to do even simple things. And that's not even including the bugfixing. You are basically saying that Mojang, who has an active Minecraft division of like 10 people, should be far and above the entire Minecraft community when it comes to content. That's ridiculous.
You are also saying that Mojang should be able to do this stuff faster. If you know anything about businesses, then you know that rapid expansion is rarely a good option. It leaves your company very unstable, and if more people were working on the game, then Minecraft would lose it's unique flair that is present because only a few people HAVE worked on the game.

Unless you've been living under a rock you should know that they are going to begin work to add the Mod API after 1.3 comes out.
As for the rest of your rant about a modder making money and Mojang plagiarizing and yadda yadda yadda, to my knowledge any mod features that Mojang has incorporated into the game has been after working with the author of the mod and gaining their permission. I challenge you to give examples to the contrary.

Honestly I wouldn't call Skyrim a sandbox game. It's an open-world, fantasy, RPG game. I don't see open-world and sandbox meaning the same thing. Skyrim has a storyline, and you have a role, just like many characters in the game. You can make decisions to do what you want, but it's not really comparable to Minecraft in my eyes.

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
