Let me make it clear right now that I don't want to change the entire game. I feel like this should be a separate mode, besides survival mode and creative and hardcore...
AGES IN MINECRAFT
I got Minecraft in Alpha, and it continues to amuse me to this day, but one thing has always bugged me; I'll play it, get as much diamonds and iron as i ever need, build some pretty cool stuff, fill out tens of maps, and then say "Now what?" So I had an idea. It would take A LOT of time, and would be rather difficult, but I see Minecraft doing very well in taking a turn in the RPG direction. What if you advanced through ages, starting off wandering through lands with other nomadic NPC's who you can build relationships with, and then advancing into basic civilizations once you've met a set of requirements. Then, in your small tribe or whatever, you have to provide for them a steady supply of certain things, and the cycle continues up until the modern age, which would be very difficult yet fun to get to. Just an idea, but constructive feedback is much appreciated.

Welcome to the intrinsic flaws of a game with absolutely no objective-driven content, goal, motive, or replayability. Take it up with the game designers. Nobody plays Minecraft for something to do because there is nothing to do. It's literally just a sandbox and that's enough for the majority.
The idea's far from original but potentially interesting. Not much detail as to how advancement would work though...

Yeah, well I posted it in hopes that maybe if people liked the idea I could take it in to serious consideration and think out more... Maybe even get a few coders to help me make a mod out of it!

If I'm understanding this, you'll advance through the ages by giving your tribe (I assume Villager-esque NPCs) stuff. So it's essentially the same old gathering game of current Minecraft, just locking out various materials and features until you advance enough. That doesn't sound like it would add much fun.

Yes, I know it would be hard, but that's how you get threads with tens of pages.
