1: I support this, but...
2: I'ma going to use a 6400x3200 res skin because my PC can handle that much. I go into SMP and half the players crash because their clients are trying to render my skin.
Perhaps you could devise a solution?

The Internet is a big place, friend. I've been places you've n͍̺e̩v̦e̦̰͍͓̩ͅr̜̭̝̬̬͉̤̬ ͙ịm̖͇a͍͇̤͙̥g̤̘i͔͖̤̼̪̬n͖͔̳̬̯e̩̘ḓ͈͔̠̙͇̼̯.͎
Mojang designed their game this way; they didn't want players to have these "HD" skins in the first place, and I'm 99% sure they're not gonna change that.
I think I may have a solution. In SMP, players have the option of rendering HD skins to a certain degree. e.g., only render HD skins >128x64. Any higher res. HD skins would have the colors be "estimated" into larger, solid color blocks. Does that make any sense? I'm no tech genius, so it's kind of hard for me to explain.
