You can often find Iron Golems defending NPC Villagers in their villages against zombies and other mobs. But what if you could use it to defend your home against other players?
All who have played on a server would most likely know the risk of someone raiding your home, stealing your things, and destroying what you've spent hours working on. I think it'd be nice if you make an iron golem in you SMP home, it will stay in the area but attack any players who attack you.
It'd be a great feeling of relief knowing that if anyone tried to destroy your home and steal your items, they'd have to deal with an iron golem. Because even if they kill the iron golem, it'd give you enough time to get your things and run, or the iron golem would bring their health down far enough that you could easily finish them off.

@Roundninja.
They could use the same system that wolves use, like how wolves attack anyone/anything that hits it's owner. Or maybe if someone's living in solitude they could even somehow set it to attack ANYONE who comes near.
I like this idea, but I think you should go a little more in-depth with it, like How you set it to attack other players, other than that though, good concept
What if you had allies that you wanted to let into your house? It'd be pretty neat if a whitelist popped up when you right clicked on him so you could type in the names of players you don't want him to deck in the face.
Very unique idea!
The problem with it is that golems take up a lot of my iron and to be honest they aren't that powerful. On most servers there's people who want to kill you and cause problems. I don't mind that, it's something you adjust to in the multiplayer setting. I would hate to have one of them attack me, then my golem would attack them and it would get killed and boom...giant loss of iron.
Also, it's very easy to attack something on accident. My friends have accidentally attacked my dogs before. It sucks but if the dog died the most I just lost was a few bones and my small bit of protection from mobs. Oh well, I go get another dog. On the other hand had that been an iron golem I'd have to make 4 more iron blocks...ouch.
It's a unique idea and I can see the potential but as the main purpose of the iron golems is to protect npc villages I just can't support this. All the same, good job presenting your idea well and keeping it unique.

Kingdoms rise and fall. Just don't burn the paintings in the Louvre, that's all.
I like this idea, but I don't like the part of "attacking anyone who comes near except the creator".
Let's say I'm on an SMP server.
1. I build a ton of iron golems someplace private but still near spawn.
2. I set them in "attack everyone but me" mode.
3. They sack the city.
4. I follow them around and pick up the things people drop.

The Internet is a big place, friend. I've been places you've n͍̺e̩v̦e̦̰͍͓̩ͅr̜̭̝̬̬͉̤̬ ͙ịm̖͇a͍͇̤͙̥g̤̘i͔͖̤̼̪̬n͖͔̳̬̯e̩̘ḓ͈͔̠̙͇̼̯.͎
Hmm, good point guys. Maybe it'd have some sort of white list that it was peaceful to everyone besides some people. And server mods could somehow enforce the iron golems so they can't be too close to spawn or whatever. Maybe this will just become a mod, and it'll have a plugin in which you choose who it attacks?

Also, here is an awesome suggestion I had: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1745550-biome-effects/
