Okay, so mobs have advanced pathfinding skills, right? Why not have traps you can build?
Now, I know that's probably been suggested, so I suggest one other thing...
Giving you only a 2/3 chance of making it correctly.
My idea is that you build it, it shows the correct version, you take it, then, if the randomizer lands on that other 1/3 chance, then poof, your pit trap is a big mess.
But, there could be possible redeeming qualities to your pile of junk. It could be used for fire wood, or maybe fertilizer for your plants. Or nothing at all, it could just take up space.
I like the idea of a block that looks solid to monsters/people but you will fall through. Hopefully this kind of trap will be in by Dungeons and Levers, but if not, I can wait.
Breaking Block:
This block will fall apart under you, mobs or other minecrafters. You have a chance to get off it but depending on how well and how much resources the person has put into the trap the less time it takes to crumble.
At any rate, I think it should break faster than it can be walked over.
These should be able to be built in two ways:
-Falls faster than you can run across it
-Gives you just enough time to run across but not enough time for the person chasing you to cross.
That way you can slow down an aggressor long enough to get into your maze to get to your hidden base, while they get lost in the maze.
Crumbling blocks? They look like cobblestone, however when something walks on it, it used the same visual effect as when you destroy any other block, giving you a chance to notice and jump off of it.
Perhaps they can also be triggered too?

They should have a slightly different appearence too, to not get builders working together confused when building towers.

Then people walking over them would be able to tell the difference too. I think that people working togethor would just tell each other what is a trap and what isn't.
Also, yes I did mean levers, however, I think that would apply better to trap doors instead.

Doesn't that happen when you walk on it.

I think he was talking about dropping the floor with a lever or something.
